Any one know much about these cars ?

It seems the company is no longer trading but there is one for sale that I might be interested in, unfortunately I know little about them, do they handle well, how heavy etc.

I am looking for a car of that ilk for sprints/hillclimbs and radicals are a bit expensive, but as I said I know nothing about Dominator.

It is the one in the classifieds,it looks good value - if they are light and handle well - if not it is an expensive ornament.

What do you know about them ?

Ever seen the programme Kitcar Crisis? It's repeated every now and again on Discovery.

That was a Dominator, albeit modified to take a transaxle it wasn't designed to handle. The chassis tubing supporting the transaxle bent on the car's shakedown run and that was that. Whether or not that makes it a bad chassis is debateable, but would you risk it?

Not surprising the manufacturer stopped trading after that, not exactly the best advert for your chassis.

Aye, the car for sale seems to have done no miles, not a good sign.

I don't think the missus will let me splash out on a radical though

Might be worth you looking at the Spire (www.spiresportscars.co.uk)

Haven't driven one but been round Oulton Park in the passenger seat and it performed rather well. They reckon you can build one from about £7,000. No doubt be at Stoneleigh next weekend.

I saw that but, and I hope it is not your car, I am not sure of the look of it, front engined is not what I was loooking for, although that is not of great importance, I was looking to a bike engine to put myself in the up to 1400 class where there are quite a few cars and so good competition, and I really don't like the look of those wheels. It is all a bit 'Bling' but I just might drop them an email to see if they are interested in a trade in of my Striker.

Thanks

They look really good, not sure what class they would fall into, if road sport they could be very competitive, if single seater class possibly less so.

They do look good though and the price is very attractive, I have my first hillclimb of the season in two weeks and will take a picture of these along and find out what class would apply.

Cheers

Do you need road legal?

If so, these bear looking at but TBH would be very surprised if they would be competitive against dedicated race machinery.

If not, how about the usual single seater suspects

I also have a feeling a well set up front engined enclosed Mallock or similar will be lighter and handle better than the Spire / Sprint R et al

No disrespect to either car or manufacturer, but they are road / track cars and rarely do those outperform purely race cars.

No I don't need road legal, though currently I compete in a road class, I would consider a single seater but to be honest a Mallock would not do well in Scotland these days, there are some state of the art single seaters here these days, I fancy trying the Sport Libre class with a Radical or similar, unfortunately radicals are a bit over my price range, well the 1300cc ones are.

Another reason for not wanting to go single seater is that track days here do not allow open wheel cars, which would mean going to race practice days to try out anything on the car, they are less frequent and more expensive than the track days.

Whatever I decide on I have to sell my current car first, both for cash and space, so I have some time to look around, I will put a for sale sign on the car at Fintray and see if there is any interest, will start advertising it soon too.

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated

The only other thing I can suggest is a Radical Clubsport with a Hayabusa engine. They were all ZZR1100 powered and that engine hasn't got much of a following in the kit arena to recover much money although a racer might be glad of it?

Actually this is great value given it includes a car and trailer!

THe more I look at these, the more they scream "affordable trackday car" too. Hmmm.

There's precious few cheap mid engined bike powered cars out there, and those that are we've already looked at above.

I know how hard it is to keep these things under 500kg when designing for road use, and to my mind the only reasonable way of doing it is to design for lightness from the outset and forget road registration and the sort of durability that dictates.

There's the Fisher Menace which is a bike powered mid engined Fury variant, don't know if it's developed to the point of being saleable yet but maybe it's worth a look?
