clutch (hat-trick) or perhaps gearbox
Discussion
Here we go again.
So I was finding changing gear harder, then easier, then really hard, then fine, then no gears at all, then completely fine. Really annoying. 5th in particular was tough to get into. All this over the last 100 miles.
Then when I finally got home today after a 60 mile run, i paused to open the garage tried to select first and - nowt.
So I'll list the symptoms and can anyone here suggest if its the clutch or gearbox.
1)can depress clutch and there is 'feel'
2)can move gearbox into gear with engine off.
3)with engine on cannot change into any gear AT ALL
4)if you put it into gear with engine off then start you can feel the clutch biting a little (even thought it is fully depressed) creeping and the car can be moved but you cannot then change gear - the clutch will bite and te car can be moved in that gear.
5)With engine running getting it out of gear into neutral is virtually impossible without a real effort.
6) before clutch went the car was often vibrating very heavily when the clutch was biting in first gear other gears ok - I though perhaps engine mounts of gearbox mounts had bust (it was that bad) but then sometimes (at higher revs on pulling away) it was ok
No black bits in master
no fluid loss in footwell or under car that I can see and the master showd no loss.
I will note had a uprated slave in November and an CT rebuilt clutch in February. So i was hoping that the master had gone (hence the Hat-trick post title) - but there would be fluid loss, no?
So whad'ya reckon gang?
I'm fearing gearbox has let go - but in what way, syncromesh??. But the issue with the car creeping in 4) above confuses me. Would it be the clutch has fallen apart - either fingers or springs?

cheers for the replies - i'll bus it to Leven and get them to have a look - I can't do the work (a simple factor of apathy, time and skills) and they look after the Cerb. They know their stuff, but I guess the gearbox will need to come out before we know. Hopefully it is the clutch.
Bet its the fingers.
It does sound like fingers, I'm afraid. Which for a CT clutch is bad, check with Leven that they did fit a CT one. How many miles has it done? I would like to give Russ at CT a call and inform him. (If that ok with you?)
Your point number 4 is because even tho the pedal is fully down the plates are not releasing from the clutch, so either fluid loss or finger loss are the most likely causes.

Thanks, but first and best option is let garage look at the problem first. Until problem is investigated - everything is assumed.
Update:
Viewed the Raceproved/CT clutch and one of the friction plates had disintergrated - I think is the best way to describe it. Half of the material on one plate had factured, come away from the 'metal' and turned to dust and little bits (no wonder i couldn't change gear!!). It is being sent back for a study - but it seems to be an incredibly rare fault since I've been told and have read on PH that the clutch is known for being strong. Trust it to happen to me eh?
Anyway back on the road again! Thanks to Leven for pulling out the stops to get the car ready for the long weekend.
