What do you all think of this?

www.pistonheads.com/sales/145094.htm

Looking at it as a long term purchase, so not worried about the CAT C as long as its been repaired to the required standard. Also I am no stranger from the spanners so the required work wouldnt be too tough.

Thoughts appreciated

I don't know Nick, I think for a few thousand more you could get SO much more. Since you can't drive it how can you assess it properly? and it's a long way to go. If it is 99% complete why does the seller not finish it and ask for a little more? Personally I would avoid. Note there have 3080 views of that page -blimey.

Why would being Cat C mean there is no V5? Surely the requirements to have the correct docs remains, whether 'written off' or not? confused

Blimey, another 250 quid & you can have mine, and it's HPI clear.

Could do with a freshen up though, she's using to much oil.

Why dont you have a look at the "straight" ones at £11.5k (one's had a rebuild 15k ago) or there's one on AT at £10.5k, not sure if thats on the register or not though.

I'm always wary of adverts - especially on Piston heads - that smacks of Car dealer wording, I mean would any of us word an advert with "This is a very stylish sports car with a sound that will turn every head ........."

Unfinished project? How unfinished? My guess is even if it is just the alarm that needs sorting, that's a specialist job (otherwise he would have done it himself) allow £500, then it would need to be taken to a good indie to get a service and check over - and that can easily cost you a grand, even if the car turns out to be perfect. Suddenly it isnt so cheap. Remember, There is no such thing as a Cheap Cerbera.

For a few grand more, you could have mine...
You're not that far away from me either

PS: Thanks, your post has spurred me into posting an ad for my car rather than procrastinating. type

Looking at the photos, three things to get you started. Missing passenger door card, missing radio, missing cowling under the steering column.

The photos of the o/s front headlamp..... is that flip paint or is there two different colours there ? Black & Blue ?

yikes Seems like a hell a lot of money for a Cat C early Cerb to me. Harsh as it sounds as a Cat C I would say it is worth probably less than half of its advertised price yes.

In my opinion if its cat C and has problems with central locking, i.e.. electrical problems of an unknown quantity, it's way over price! - however would be well worth it for some where in the region of 6-7k depending on the amount of body damage remaining, I know it says 99% finished, but some people have funny ideas about 1% entails in the way of time and money.

Think you don't get a V5 back from the DVLNazi's till you have had the car repaired and put through a VIC check - however this is (contrary to what I used to think) a fairly simple check to confirm that it is still the same car and not a ringer or hooky - quick check of chassis numbers etc and jobs a goodun. Which does beg the question, if the repair work is all done and we are talking 1% left to do which is basically sort out the central locking, then why has the VIC check not just been done and it would be one less thing to worry a buyer.

As it stands I have to agree that it is over the top - Cat C, fully repaired etc should be about 1/3 less than an equivalent car assuming a like for like condition, history file etc etc. This however is priced a third less than only a very top 97 4.2's IMO and yet it still has work needing to finish and also has this question mark over the VIC check needing doing. No mention of a SH either so a fair chance it is missing I would say, which further marks it down.

Nice to see everyone talking about this bargain!!

I brought her after seeing the advert on PH. Spent 3 weekends tinkering and fettling, she passed the MOT last week and off for VIC test on the 8th.

I though the same as everyone else, ...seems a bit dear, why not finish it yourself if thats all it needs etc. But though its worth a look so drove 150 miles to Grimsby.

When I got there what I saw was basically a near complete car that was short of a few jobs. These were:-
1) Sort out unfinished electrical issues.
2) Fit new tyre on rear
3) Give her a good service
4) Vic test her

So hopefully she'll be on the road next week.

Oh yes, lots less than advertised.

Plus meant to say its a Cat C due to a dashboard electrical fire not accident damage.
The previous owner had already fitted a replacement wiring harness (from another car), changed all the trim, and replaced the screen (laminate had just started to melt) So all the big jobs were done Just left the little jobs for me.
Some were simple like the lights, ribbon connector wrong way round!
Steering wheel controls, needed new ecu (£35 Bell Hill)
Heater ecu missing
Inner door switches not working, been replaced but not connected!

Nice - hope it works out OK for you.

Any idea what caused the fire? Just so I know what next to look for...
