For no other reason than its incredibly sunny, warm and the thought of doing an essay instead of watching endless throngs of supercars driving me mad, I am going to drive to London for the Gumball start. Totally last minute, no idea about timings for leaving the Midlands, nor where to park etc etc, but I just wondered if any Midlanders were also heading down and fancied meeting up either to drive from this region early tomorrow or somwhere in sunny London at the PH pub meet which is being organised pre-Gumball.

Was speaking to Minimax about it earlier in the week and he was considering a run down to see it at the time. I'm heading out to the US for a bit tomorrow, or I'd be down there like a shot. Well, "shot" is maybe over-egging it a bit in the skaguar.

James, what have you done to your pretty Mondeo to increase its value over the purchase price so much?

I bought it off eBay. On the basis of a badly worded ad. Unseen. From a brummie. And it had a lot of pictures of all the scratches on it from someone keying it. And no redeeming features mentioned. Funnily enough, nobody else was bidding on it.

So, £300 and a couple of days of shopping around has got me a full leather interior to fit, replacement gaiters, and titanium burl dash for it giving it full interior sport trim. And the scratches will be getting polished out of it on Thursday.

That's on top of a nice black interior, usual 4WD, aircon, alloys, blah blah blah spec, etc. And only 44k on the clock. It always was worth the higher price... I just got me a fleabay bargain. Plan is to do it up, sell it on (after putting a few miles on it), and buy something with a bit more grunt. bounce

I was there today - awesome line-up of cars, with cool graphics to match. Biggest shock was the Luxembourg plated Bugatti Veyron, with a 25 - 30yr old female driving it and a 7-8 yr old child as her passenger. yikes Lucky souls.

It would appear that the Veyron being driven by the lady was the one owned by a certain Mr KS who owns the various classic Ferraris around the Enzo on the starting grid, not to mention a bonkers Cayenne Turbo! Great day and utterly knackered now. Definitely worth it and I'd happily drive all the way back next year for more of the same thumbup

Definitely agree with you! I must plan a bit better for 2008, even if I bagged a parking space - eat your heart out, Livingstone's parking stormtroopers - and managed to get inside the fenced-off lane, thanks to my client (and friend) who entered a car. I take my hat off to him.

I met K321 and K323 too.
