The Water Pump and the Trevi Fountian - HELP!
Discussion
Howdy Grifters,
Spent a jolly day reinstalling a re-cored radiator to my 500. In addition I bought and have added a Leven Thermostat and otter switch to try and reduce the temperatures for the run to Zolder, and for general summer capering. However I have hit a couple of snags that I need help with.
1. The top bolt that goes through the bottom bracket of the swirl tank is reluctant to catch the thread, and is not screwing back into to full depth. Nothing is/looks stripped on the bolt (long one with a shoulder running 3/4 length), but it feels like its not catching the thread?
2. I assume that due to above, coolant is now 'trevi-ing' out from the side of the water pump? Is this now a pump out job?
3. I knowe that I shouldn't really trust the temp guage, but with the new otter switch in the temp sailed past the 90 and I shut of the engine before the temp creeped into the red. It's never done that before. I have tested the relays/fuses and the connections by using a 40A fuse on the otter connection for the fans and they work fine. Is this a duff otter switch?
Thanks for looking in and for any and all advise.

I think you are right johnnyb. I have picked that up searching through other topics.
Right, the pump is off and I have managed to get some light into the bolthole that's causing the problems. There doesn't look as if there is anything in there causing a blockage.
Marking the bolt at the point that its right into the hole (its right up to the back of the hole), leads to the threads having been stripped when I was taking the bolt out.....how that happens christ only knows.
So the next Q & A is can I tap and die and use a standard bolt, or do I need to use a long jobbie with a shoulder. I don't think that necessary, but for those in the know, your help is appreciated.
Also, is it a gasket or gasket sealant to seal up the mating surfaces? Can't make out what's been used......
Obviously this 500 is not keen to get out on the road just yet......
Thanks
Marto
