Laser detector ban
Discussion
Theve supposedly been taing about it for years and it is meant to come in in the next 18 monthes. But i used to say exactly what the salesman said to u when i worked for Halfords over a year ago now, so it will be coming in but dont hold ur breath.
Road angel do a unit called the road angel compact which doesnt come with a laser detector but you can buy a separate attachment for about 50 quid that gives you the lsaer detecttion. Its near bottom of the range model but it means that when you update it you can remove the laser attachment and therefore it will not be affected. It willhowever becomeillegal to use themand if found with one you could be prosecuted.
rumour is the bib are also gonna get laser detector detectors. so they will be able to find anyone using one.
If ur thinking about getting one u should do soon tho

Really, just how are they going to work then?
I can't think of any mechanism that is capable of detecting a detector. The devices are completely passive.
The only piece of equipment that could possibly do it they already have. The MK1 eyeball.
No doubt someone will be alone shortly to correct me if I am wrong.
Oh, and BTW, it's "you" and "you're", not "u" and "ur". Did you pick that up when you worked in Halfords?

They could use my Sky dish for starters.. It looses the signal if I leave my snooper on in the car. I dont think the detectors are as passive as they are made out to be.
Id think there are more constructive things the bib could be doing though than nicking people for this.

Is it expected to happen? I went to Halfds to get a road angel plus and the salesman said that there's going to be a ban soon and road angel will disable the detector when people update their software. Has there been any news about this?
In that case, i'll be wanting a partial refund on my Road Angel Plus

No must have picked that up from a misspent youth, as i have much better things to do with my time than correct other peoples grammer
Learning how to write English properly not being one of them obviously.
BTW, it's grammar.

I've always reckoned that if I don't see it first a laser is going to get me before a detector picks it up. An up-to-date database of fixed and mobile scam sites works pretty well for me. I don't even bother with the radar detector any more as it seemed to pick up every burglar alarm I passed.

Obviously not, but at least ur here to set me straight. Thanx, im a much better person now
I wonder if the reaction of traffic police to detectors, if they catch you with one, will end up being the same as the french reaction, which is quite severe apparently.
Also - if you're doing a serious speed towards a laser presumably you have very little chance of reacting in time to prevent detection. And, when the detector goes off, is the natural reaction to look around for the plod for a split second before hitting the brakes?
Such a shame that the devices will be illegal - every time I see a sneaky little van parked on a bend with a camera facing the unsuspecting, oncoming motorists (e.g. those slowing round a bend from a 50 zone to a 30 zone on an off-slip), it makes me think that the spirit of fair-play is dead & buried. The detector seemed to be the only thing redressing the balance. ...
