does anyone have one of these? It is twice the price of the non-DO lens, I am considering one - not sure if the extra price is worth it?

anyone have any experience/thoughts?

Its more compact & lighter than the non DO. That about sums it up.

I used to have one, and wasn't overly impressed to be honest. The concept is great, but the results can be quite soft and lacking in punch.

If it were a few hundred quid cheaper I'd probably have kept it, but I bought mine for £850 and regretted it to be honest.

Ouch £850 seems a lot, I paid less than that for a 300 F4L prime

This was two years ago - a week before I was going travelling round the world, and had decided to only take two lenses to keep the weight down. As it was, the other lens I took (a Sigma 18-125mm) developed a fault, and so for much of the trip I was down to just the DO.

I had one of these shortly after they came out - I tried to persist with it but found the images it produced really disappointingly soft and sold it .... for alot less than I bought it for ! One of only two Canon lenses I have sold on. I tried sending it back to Canon to check but they said it was all 'within tolerances'.

I have the 70-300 IS and it's an excellent lens. Not too big but very capable and excellent image quality. I'm rather underwhelmed with the USM as it's just as slow and loud as my old 80-200 though. I have no problems with the size or weight, but then my D30 is quite heavy to start with so lens weight isn't such an issue as it would be with a 350d for example.

Yes this has good reviews and did well in the tests. It's the one the trade refer to as the hidden lens.

Just about to order one myself.

where are you going to buy from - what is the best price you have seen?

I have found a lot of the internet sites post low prices but dont seem to have it in stock when you try to buy!

Yes, I think there is a supply problem with this lens currently.

It's a little gem for the price (about £370) and I think supply cannot keep up with demand.

I need mine before I go on holiday so must ensure I order one very soon!

My local Jessops (who ask £400) have about 160 on back order yikes
