Congrats on the purchase beer If you can get hold of a copy of April's Total911 Magazine, there's a good 12 Page profile on the 996GT2 containing most of the facts and figures about these awesome driving machines.

Any details you care to share, year, colour, spec etc.

And of course when you get bored with the standard spec you can always up the ante!

Hi FV/Mark,
ironically,I did 2 runs at run what ya brung this weekend at Santa Pod, no wheelspin just roll then accelerate hard, timing ticket at home but it pretty much reads like this ;-
1/8 mile 7.7 at 98.9 mph
1/4 at 11.74 at 123.98mph.
Actually beating what I thought were the manufacturers figures of 12.5s to 200kph ie 124mph and 7.8s to 100mph. Nice pleasant day around 18c with a light breeze. So again proving the pessimism that goes into porsche official figs, my car is a 462ps, buckets and stainless cage.
Hope it helps, unofficial but bang on - oh and my reaction time was a shabby .68, they say a perfect light is .4.
Regards J

The rate at which these things leave the road backwards to fuse themselves with the scenery suggests that, by and large, 460+ BHP and rear wheel drive in a car with it's engine slung so far out the back that it might as well be on a trailer, is probably sufficient.

....good figures. I have to say that the car does feel that fast but good to see that it can put the figures down.

Right - with an anchor presumably. So a properly set up 462 (or 483bhp) GT2 is able to handle another 100BHP or more. And the driver? Maybe it's just me, but the notion of tuning a GT2 just smacks of bar-stool semantics. I don't get which part of 0-100 mph in about 8 seconds would lead me to think the car needed a bit more poke.

Fair point, but doesn't everything start to feel a bit slow once you get used to it? I can still remember how quick 150 bhp felt coming from maybe 100 on a good day. And test-driving 280 compared to the 155 paperbag I currently have felt worlds apart, but I think I'd get used to that too...is there a point where you have so much power you never get to the point of wanting more?

Maybe, but Drhildr has 638bhp and thinks that is NOT enough.[Specially when we meet at the next VMax.

It's mostly a myth - a properly set up GT2, driven with a modicum of skill is no more likely to spin / leave the road than any other high performance car in the same hands. Mine is tracked on a regular basis and has not let me down yet. You may not see the point of big BHP in a GT2 but you really ought to try it - I also run a highly fettled Elise on track which has a different kind of joy attached to it (deep late braking, great noise, awesome handling etc etc) but there is nothing quite like nailing an apex and unleashing big power in a GT2.......

...yes i think i'm at that point now with "just" the standard 463. I think it is different if you are spending lots of time on track though.

Fair enough I suppose, and yes - you can pretty much get used to anything. Still - it's nice to be able to access and use as much of your car's performance envelope as possible. In the case of an X50 TT, this isn't a problem IMO - the chassis is foolproof. I just wonder how usable a GT2 with 550+BHP actually is outside of things like VMax events. Not that I'd have anything against finding out. As you were...

Agreed - putting things into perspective standard Yamaha r1 's do the 1/4 mile in around 10.9secs, standard gt2 11.7...............

Fair point - my Elise is tweaked a lot (200bhp, nitrons etc etc) and you can really wring it's neck and enjoy a big grin factor track day. The Ruf GT2 (630bhp / 800nm) demands proper respect and a driving style / technique in line with the power / torque / rwd equation, but by golly, when you get it right the ride is never to be forgotten!! .
