Oil pressure sender
Discussion
Intermotor 53800 - is this the part number for an oil pressure sender for a '96 Chimaera 4.0, for the gauge itself not the warning light on the dash? I have some questionable readings on my gauge (around 15 psi when hot) but the warning light does not come on, so I'm thinking the sender might be duff, but not keen on paying about £60 for an original one if I can get the intermotor part for around £20.
Pretty sure the light is working, i.e. it comes on when you turn the ignition on, but goes out once the engine is started. So I'm more inclined to think the gauge is giving an inaccurate reading.
Found out my speedo's just as bad this week - testing indicated speed against GPS, 90 mph indicated is actually 78 mph, but bizarrely 100 mph indicated is 94 mph actual - not on public roads, obviously...

Pressure switch is very low pressure <10psi IIRC. You should get a garage to use calibrated pressure tester to check your pressure first IMHO.

Yes, you may find it is telling fibbs my one does by about 10psi across the range but i just monitor what readings it does give to know its all ok,when i know the true readings are normal,i put it on my oil pressure tester(non electric)and readings i got where 22 hot idle fast idle 42 if i remember.

If the intermotor sender is only about £15-£20, won't it cost more to get a garage to test it than to replace the sender?
Matching senders & gauges could be described as hit/miss or a black art
The knowledge of your actual pressures will be useful if either you replace sender (so you can tell new one is accurate/not) or your pump/oil need attention. Cant see a garage charging too much for this.
