Later this year I am looking to get a new vehicle. I have for along time been drawn to the Lotus Elise and its still very high on my list however I have been a long time fan of the Mini and earlier this year I was lucky to drive a Works GP which I totally loved.

I know that we do not yet have any confirmed news of what the new R56 John Cooper Works pack will be but I would like to know what the members PH think about the following question:

Would you rather have a 57 plate R56 John Cooper Works or a nice low milage Works GP? and why?

Also would you have a Lotus Elise before both of the above or is that a silly question in the MINI part of the forum?

Everyone should own an Elise once, do that first.

GP without doubt.

Faster and rarer and more valuable when you sell than the new Cooper S Works.

There is a feature in Modern MINI magazine this month comparing the two

Personally, I would plough the money into the GP. Awesome car, and you're very unlikely to lose too much money!

Tbh i hate the looks of the GP but it drives so good for a production car, I was a bit dissappointed when i had one for a short period but i supose i was expecting too much compared to my S works which has been twweked to 240bhp is running brembo brakes an coilover suspension. On the R56 works, still nothing out about this car so is difficult to say, the one criticisum with the new car is it feels a bit to refined an grown up but otherwise its a winner, the new S goes very well out of the box
