Nipped out last night and lifted the bonet when I got back but only 1 fan was spinning (nearest to the driver) is this just a replacement fan or does sometimes only 1 fan work ?

If standard both fans come on/go off together. They are on separate fuses & relays though. Try swapping the connectors over to see if the other fan works/doesn't work.

Had the same the other day, my horn stopped working also. A bit of searching around the forums led to a blown fuse (apparently on the same) third one in from the left, if I remember!!

I guess the steps I would take are:

1. short the otter switch with a spare fuse - you shoudl then have fans when the ign is switched on
...the horn fuse powers the otter switch BTW.
2. Check your handbook to see if you have fuse & relays for each fan (a lot of cars only have a single fuse & relay - which if one fan is working will be OK unless you have a non-std mod like Modwise thingymajig). If you have 2 swap the fuses and relays over and if the other fan now works you have found the problem.
3. Swap the fan connectors over at the fans, if the same fan is still not working clean the connectors andtry again. If it is still inoperative it is quite likely you need a new fan.
.. if both fans now work, clean the connectors and re-assemble, job done.
.. if the different fan now works check the continuity to ground at the fan connector. You may have a fault from the fusebox relay to the fan, you can check for continuity between the fusebox relay terminal socket and the fan connector.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be corroded connectors.
Have a look at this. It may help.

One fan is wired in with the horn. Careful on the fusebox, as not all cars are wired the same rolleyes

I lost a fan in 42oC heat in Spain a couple of years back (the needle nudged 95 so I knew summat wasn't right!). Tried the horn, no sound, so just had to find it.

Seems the car I had was built when they had fuse box supplier issues, so had to resemblence to the diagram in the handbook... or Mr Heath's publication... hehe
