On quite a lot (not all) of the posts in the classifieds the first few digits of any number are replaced by a question mark in a black diamond.
Is this normal?

It's something to do with charecter encoding in firefox.
View-> Charecter Encoding -> Auto Detect -> Off
View-> Charecter Encoding -> West Europe
Try that.
