Got a trip to Spain coming up in a few weeks, and thought it would be good to get a camcorder attached to the tank. Was gonna do some testing on the way to work, but do you think this is a good idea? I was just thinking that if BiB saw me they might be intetrested in viewing the tape!! That would be curtains! Now I'm thinking it might be asking for trouble.

Any thoughts?

(Ideally wanted to get a bullet cam, but my camcorder doesn't support one).

Depends what's on the tape! If you cover your clocks and don't pull wheelies everywhere I don't see what they can do.

I think it's a great idea - I'm sure everyone here would appreciate seeing your next hedge, jumping, dirt-riding video when you upload it!!

Sorry mate!!

As has been said, mount it so that the speedo and rev counter can’t be seen and you should be OK. Likewise, if the purpose of the trip is to test the camera then keep both wheels on the tarmac and use impulse power rather than warp drive. (Probably a good idea to go a little slower for the first run anyway as you will be surprised just how often your attention is drawn away from the road to check on the camera.)

PS Nick - How did the exams go?

Hiya David,

Trust me, two wheels are always on the ground!!

Exam was...err.....I really don't know. I haven't sat an exam for 20 years, so I've no idea. I may be lucky and might have just sneaked it, but I guess the smart money would be on a close fail!
Thanks for asking.

On a serious note . . . ahem . . .

I recently bought a hard disk camcorder, partly for use on the bike and almost regret it as it doesn't like the vibrations - it is forever trying to recover the data. Big knocks (pot-holes and ham-fisted wheelies!!) pretty much shut it down. It's fine when I use it with the bullet cam, but not so clever when mounted directly on the bike, unless the road is smooth.

Yeah, my mate has done it that way before, and it wasn't ideal. Not sure that anyone I know has gone down the "tape" route yet.

I've got one of these:

www.samsung.com/Products/Camcorder/DigitalMemory/SC_X105LXAA.asp

It comes with the bullet cam and I normally mount it under the headlights with a couple of cable ties. Works quite well but the quality isn't great. Doesn't suffer from the same probs as hdd camcorders as it uses solid state memory.

Might be interested in one of these myself.

They are on ebay (including 2GB card) for around £115.
