My T56 has developed a whine when decelerating. Not so bad at high speed but really annoying at lower mph. Any suggestions? Are there any known faults? Does anybody know a good specialist?

The noise is too far forward to be the diff I think and it doesn't do it if you depress the clutch.

Also, the gearbox oil was changed a few thousand miles ago when I had the clutch done (yes they used the right stuff) but I'm sure I read a post on here about how over filling the box proved to be beneficial?

Any help would be great

Just a thought, did they put in a new clutch thrust bearing at the time of replacing the clutch?

Yeah it's had a new bearing. The car has done 78000 miles now, maybe it's just time it was reconditioned.

78,000 miles scratchchin ok, idea how about you strip your bits off the car and trade it, then buy a low mileage VXR 6L and either sell your bits, or if they will fit get them transferd to the new car, problem solved clap well apart from the bank manager.

I got a whine in mine as well (rear bearing)caused through the propshaft doughnut wearing out and throwing the propshaft off balance = rear G/Box oilseal/bearing damaged. I replaced the oil seal and left the bearing... 20k later still whines but what the hell.doesn't leak oil at the rear. bty whine stops when depressing the clutch so I would guess your rear bearing is suspect.

Is it the box or the diff ?

Is it in all gears, or one particular gear ?

What oil did they use ?

All gears but particularly 1st 2nd and 3rd. They used Dexron 3 (Castrol). This bearing thing sounds like it could be along the right lines. It's certainly that kind of sound and I have noticed a bit of extra vibration recently.scratchchin Was it a big job? Exhaust off, propshaft off and box off, then what?

I'd love a VXR but with a 1 year old and a New House being built (6 miles from Knockhill incidently, can't wait), I think the Bank might have a bit to say, nevermind the wife!
