Oh oh clutch slipping !
Discussion
Just when I thought Trevor and I could catch some early summer rays, the garage servicing him have reported back saying the clutch was slipping badly. The car was laid up last October with no clutch problems apart from a leaking slave cylinder. Having replaced the slave cylinder with a patent part during the winter, I towed the `s` to my local garage. The garage have since bled the clutch slave cylinder with no apparent problems untill todays test drive.
Does a clutch cease due to lack of use over winter ?
The original slave cylinder failed suddenly. Could that effect the clutch itself ?
The new slave cylinder was a pig to fit and seemed to move the clutch arm more. Maybe this is the cause ?
Any ideas ?
Just out ouf interest, how much for a new clutch ? I`ve heared they are expensive ....!!!
Cheers all

It's not the cost of the clutch, it's the labour. Speak to most garages and they will tell you it is an engine out job and 3 months labour!
I recently had my clutch replaced by Guglielmi's in Daventry. They managed to replace it without taking the engine out, they had to cut the old gearbox mounts off and weld on new ones.
Still quite expensive but nowhere near how much it could have been!

Its not a case of wether it moves it more, its more a case of wether it lets it return to its normal starting position, is the clutch arm moving more ,or is the start position already into its old travel range,if it is it will have a tendency to slip depending on how much.
Thank god !! Just had word from the garage and the clutch is NOT slipping. It appears that during storage it had seized slightly. Large amounts of WD40 and plenty of clutch pedal pumping seems to have freed it..... Phew. I wasn`t really looking forward to telling the missus about a potential £500 ish for a new clutch !!!
Cheers !

Id be a little bit suspicious of that garage as they seem to have diagnosed 2 opposite problems
1 A slipping clutch
2 a seized clutch
Unmless they were talking about a seized mechanism holding the cluch arm in somehow??
