What is the largest wheel you can fit to an E60 M5?

I had 18" m5 copys which I never liked then swapped for 19" original equipment wheeels on mine and I thought they looked mint.. think tyres were 275/30/19 on the rear .. pretty sure you will get a BIG wheel under the arches though, I feared the compromise in the ride so stuck to 19"s..
I know I sound like an old bloke here, but I've been out in both the M5, and an M Sport 530i (among others - actually, have you seen a non-sport - back to topic) as a passenger and really wouldn't want to compremise the ride quality by fitting larger wheels.

IMO someone wanting 'the largest wheels' you can possibly get under the arches doesn't have ride quality and steering feel at the top of their priorities.
A quick bit of googling shows that 22" do fit with no rubbing apparently, perhaps you could squeeze some 26" if you got the arches rolled

BMW spend millions getting the car to handle with the wheels it leaves the factory with and you want to change them??
If you really must change them have you considered swapping to M6 alloys. I think someone on here has them on his E60.

that was the idea 3 year ago when I owned that car. 270bhp diesel 45mpg and M5 looks for £23k..

Seriously though, is the handling so good that you want to fit 22" wheels and downgrade it to be more real world? Also, would suggest that you could try Halfords for a new steering wheel (they do a catchy red one which would seriously devalue the performance experience?), and they also do a great line in drills so you can DIY improve the exhaust by drilling some holes in the silencers?

About 3-4 weeks ago at Castle Combe and again at Donnington in another 3 weeks - also been to Brands but a bit harder to find the limits there! Also had the 155 restrictor removed and a P550 program, but obviously I never go above 70 when in the UK...

I'm guessing the marketing guys having more clout than the engineers. Thankfully the M5 doesn't come with run flats.

you could see if its possible to jack up the suspension like bigfoot, that would wow people,
