Were there repeater signs on the lampposts in the village? If yes then the 40mph limit stands, if not then the limit is 30mph. Although there are numerous rules and regulations relating to this which can mean that if caught speeding it doesn't count. But they are on other threads and I'm

If both the signs are not displayed correctly on both sides of the road, then the signs are not enforceable. They must both be there. It might not stop you getting reported for the offence but it would be a defence for you to try if you decided to run the case at court.
