PS Elements 3 and DNG files.

I have PS Elements 3 running under Win XP Pro and have installed the plugin for Adobe's RAW coverter and DNG converter (version 3.6).
I had originally installed the RAW converter (3.6) on its own, but found that when I tried opening NEF files, I was getting an error message telling me of a 'disk error'. But now that I have the combined RAW/DNG converter loaded, I can open the DNG files into the RAW editing utility ok.
However, from within the PSE browser, I can view the NEF files from my camera as thumbnails, but the DNG files are only visible as DNG icons.
Is it possible to configure PSE so that I can view DNG files as thumbnails, as I am having to keep the NEF file just so that I can see which file to open!
