Hi all,

Just got a P97 Cerbera 4.2. It is misfiring at the moment. if you rev it to 1500 rpm, its popping and slutering all over the place. Going through town keeping to the speed limit! On very light throttle its jumping about.

Keeping it at a steady 1500 rpm, somebody at the back of the car, the o/s exhaust NOTE is sounding OK but the n/s exhaust is misfiring. I have swapped the coil packs over just to check if it could be a faulty coil pack. Started it up and its still misfiring on n/s !!!!!! I have checked leads and spark plugs, all seem to be fine. I have just ordered a new set of leads just in case!

So,
I then tried disconnecting each injector to see if a had a dodgy one! Unpluged the 1st one, no difference, the 2nd the differance and so on. Connected them all back up still no difference. Just to double check I unplugged an injector lead again on the otherside (o/s) and it made a differance, the revs died down then plugged it back, revs came back up. I also unplugged the ODD T - POT connector that made no differance. So to check if that was at fault, swapped the o/s one to n/s, then n/s to o/s. STIL NO DIFFERENCE.

I'm stuck, can I have some help please!!!

Also, you can't just swap throttle pots without using a laptop to see what they are reading, as they need to be calibrated properly when fitted! You need the software to see whats going on...........

defo get a laptop connected .. my car was stuttering, misfiring and generally being a bitch. Fault was pinned down to a faulty T Pot. Connected a laptop, ran the software, replaced the pot, balanced and tuned and now runs like an absolute dream. Can't believe the difference its made.

OK.......So, the software has anybody got it and I guess the ecu is in the passenger foot well. What cable do I need?

Thanks for your help? So, it sounds like the throttle pot sensor on the n/s bank needs setting up!

i have the software pal .. email me your addy and i'll get a copy off to you tomorrow

ECU is in the passenger footwell, remove the carpet cover thing to reveal the actual ECU, 4 allen bolts to take off the cover and you'll see a little 9 pin serial port. If you have an old laptop with serial ports then its easy, if not you'll need a serial port to usb lead (bought from Maplin - £20). Some folks on here have struggled with these but after a little tweaking and some advice from here i got mine to work no problem.

Hope this helps

Might be the air temp sensor or a dodgey throttle pot?

Sorry - was out.

Have a look at Clever Trevor - www.clever-trevor.net/cars/1-cerbera-v8.html

About half way down is a combined lead for both plug types.

It is a square alloy 'tin' - about 15cm x 15cm and 4 cm thick?

It's behind the vertical panel at the end of the footwell, pull it where it meets the floor.

Mine is also misfiring on idle, it's ok when it is warming up but after a few minutes starts to pop and bang.

It has been at Walldonway for the last week and they are trying all the usual things. They are going to get the injectors cleaned, in case one of them is leaking fuel. Figured it wouldn't be noticeable during the 'rich' warm up phase and ok at higher revs, but might make a difference at idle.

To be honest it's driving me nuts! Haven't had the car to drive properly since March, when the chain broke.
