Can someone give me a hint where they have had a 996 MOTd before in the West London area.

I don't want to let some back street garage lose on it (I know it is only a MOT but still) and I think OPC might be overkill. Although I am happy to be corrected.

Thanks.

MOT at an OPC??

they'll take it round the corner to a local garage and charge you for the pleasure

I think they have to. I was told that OPCs don't do MOTs themselves because you are then a Government/VOSA appointed test station and have to test whatever turns up and charge the standard fee (as a maximum). OPCs don't want other cars around the place. Imagine your nice 997 GT3 on a ramp next to a £100 Ford Escort in the same workshop. Not what owners (of Porsches) want to see............

exactly - they'll charge an MOT fee plus labour whilst matey boy from round the corner does the test for £40

I thought that, but recently had MOT on my 996, didn't have time to organise, and knew I needed a replacement instrument switch in the dash, so had Exeter OPC fit the switch and arrange MOT.

They collected the car from work, installed the switch, took to another dealer for MOT, returned to my office and only charged for the switch, with labour and standard MOT charge.

Although, they didn't do the usual valet. rolleyes

At least I 'think' the work is on the car and not me, but thanks for the warning!

Anyone ever challenge them on what work they (OPC) did then? Worth a punt?

Got West London OPC to do the MOT as part of last service, only paid the MOT cost, no other charges related to the MOT.

Maybe I should just book it in with the OPC even if my closest one is West London.

Legally they cannot charge me more for the MOT and the car has warranty and had an OPC inspection less than a month ago so they shouldn't be able to charge me for any faults ... or could they?

When I get home, let me check the MOT cert & I'll tell you where it was done if it helps.

Yes, there's a maximum fee that can be charged for an MOT (currently £50.35), so that's the most you should be charged for the MOT.

However there is always the risk that the person doing the test will find fault and say that xyz needs doing which luckily they'll be able to do for you.

Why not take your car down to your local council's testing station which although is there to test the council's vehicles, by law they must also be open to the general public. There's no incentive for the tester to find faults here as they won't work on your car.

Would be great if you could post back on this thread when you have had it done.

Is it as much as £50 now. Scandalous!
Oh and let some guy who normally MOTs trucks loose on it. I can see it now: "As part of the MOT me and my mates now have to take the car on an extensive test drive!"

So my 996TT is going in for its MOT tomorrow morning.

Is there anything these things tend to fail on? Emissions for instance? Anything I should be worried about?
