They tried to run? How on earth did they think they would escape? It'd not like it's a low profile event?

Strange people!

I hope not, there's often an over reaction in these circumstances, lots of I told you so's come out of the woodwork, I think its the responsibility of the individuals involved alone, but the lack of reaction from gumball plc is rather unnerving and certainly won't help matters (they have shut there live coverage and forum also), hopfuly in the future they can take a more responsible line, they have turned a blind eye to the more extreem drivers for too long.

Over reaction? Putting yourself in a position where you can cause this kind of accident and then running off to leave an old woman dying beside her dead husband? There is no defence.

After the high profile crashes such as the white Murcialago (filming your speedo at 190 mph plus prior to totaling the car is not a good idea)a couple of years ago it's not so such much "I told you so" as "how has this not happened earlier" There is a difference. Hooning around in cars and on bikes is on its way out, we all know it. I have done plenty and would love to continue. This just hastens its passing. Please grow up

usually these blasts are on an open clear road, its the individuals misjudgements and driving inappropriately, most people on this site have had a "blat" or "hoon", its exciting and gets the adrenalin pumping, but usually when there's traffic about or even if we have a passanger we back off so we risk ourselves only, this weaving through traffic and overly aggressive driving is the sort of thing that should have been dealt with more severely by the organisers. but if you read the entry form for the gumball they do stress to drive to the country limits as they are ambassadors for the event so I still think its mostly down to the individual and not gumball. as for the alcohol, I don't drink myself and hate the culture surrounding it, why is being a pi** head deemed "cool", but if they ban this rally what of the canonball, canonball europe, carbon black and all the others?, they all have the same driving standards, its just one is higher profile, if the nutters can be weeded out then the rest of us can carry on having fun.

My sentiments exactly, well said.

HAving read jalopnic AOL MEtro and other various news sources the only thing that is clear is that nothing is clear.

Firstly it appears that Gumball ahve handled this poorly - with a press release and official reaction to the situation being very slow in arriving.

The reactions of the drivers of the porsche involved are simultaneously reported as being ones of compassions and sense :

i.e. stay with vehicle and work with ambulance, proceed to border and report accident and co-operate with police)

and at the other end of the scale jalopnik / AOL have reports apparrently quoting local majistrates as charging them with leaving the scene of the accident and trying to leave the country...

Similarly the official Gumball position seems to be that the Golf turned out and caused the accident. The official quoted on AOL suggests (and it's suggested elsewhere) that the 911 crossed into the oncoming lane causing the accident.

Either way its a tragic event that should have been avoided.

I guess we'll just have to wait for the facts to surface - at the moment the level of rumour and speculation mean that any comments are pretty mcuh worthless...

Louis.

I like most have all the Gumball dvds and its been screened on tv often. It was only a matter of time that this was going to happen and i am supprised only one has lost his life. Two events come to my mind that have prompted me to say this. in one episode there was a red 360 spider with two complete tossers who were speeding through an African village and clipped the curb, the local crowds has to run for there lives. When the tossers finally stopped after missing the crowds, they laughed like little prats.
The second and most infamous event was when the transporter planes unloaded the exotics in Europe for a leg of the run. Another pair of you har Henry tossers raced a pair of 355 spiders down the main airport runway moments before a passenger plane was about to land. Again they laughed about it like little boys.
Exotic runs are fun, i do them my self. In fact i did one only last weekend. But we drove in the correct manner and especially paid great attention to the speed limits and in particularly through villages. there are a lot of haters out there and to be honest because of the Gumball and Cannonball events were some drivers are bombastic and frivolous with other peoples lives.

Was only a matter of time. On-the-limit is better and safer on circuits. These type of events, Cannonball included, were cool until 4 years ago. It's all gone a bit McDonalds now.

I really enjoy watching the gumball, as much for the crazy parties they have on the way aswell as the cars. I totally agree that this incident should bring a review and the drivers deserve what they get for killing two people.

I would still like the gumball to continue as not all the drivers are irresponsible, drunken pricks.

If you ban the gumball all the others will follow and where does that leave domestic meets?? You can say that on the way to meetings some people drive the same as the gumballers??
