electric fan riddle!

During my recent underbonnet make/over,i came across something that as made quite a change to the cooling in traffic,whilst refitting the rad i noticed the wires going to one of the fan multiplugs(factory ones)was back to front,so i thought i would bridge the otter switch wires and guess what one of the fans was blowing instead of sucking,great i thought so while one fan is sucking cool air in the other is sucking warm air from the undebonnet and putting it back into the air scoop opening(not ideal)causing a cycle of warm air flow,always wondered why when in traffic the fans stayed on constantly,anyway since then even in heavy traffic the fans constantly cut in and out(unlike before) a sure sign there moving the air far more efficiently,how long these wires have been like this is anyones guess the strange thing is the barbs in the multiplug were undamaged indicating this car left the factory wired like this,lucky this did not cause overheating worth checking guys,yes i was suprised too.
