5 speed gearbox on tasmin 200

Does anyone know if the type 9 gearbox from a sierra will fit the Pinto engine in place of the 4 speed box

This was a standard sort of bolt on upgrade done on many RWD Escorts and various kit cars. Never done it myself but I believe all the bits are readily available. I guess you would need to work out changes to gearbox mounts, propshaft, and bellhousing.

It definitely will attach to the 2.0 Pinto, a standard fitment in Sierras for example, my kit car also had that arrangement. Though I'm not sure whether the gearstick will be in the right spot, along with various other items. That said, I can't think it would be too painful to make it fit, using a combination of bits. Anyway, type 9s are cheap so nothing to lose by giving it a try

It isn't in the right spot on the 350i either, so TVR cut and shut the gearstick lever about 3" backwards.

I'm sure you can make it fit.

I've got a magazine article somewhere which explains how to do this conversion on a MK2 Escort (also has Pinto engine). It's definitely possible. IIRC you need to move the G/B mounts and the prop needs altering. If you are interested I can dig out the article.

I never did change to the type 9, kept the 4speed and reconned it, all works well now.....

did it on my 200, www.degs.com has a write up, the rear lugs need removing if your doing it with engine still in the car.
