Driving Day at North Weald - £35.00
Discussion
I keep checking this site (www.carlimits.com) & finally another activity day has popped up on Friday 13th July at North Weald Airfield in North Essex - just off the M11 south of Cambridge. Price £35.00 per car (not per person) and spaces limited to 20 people - as I write there are 16 left.
I haven't done one of these days before but it looks like for £35.00 you get a day of hooning about in a small group on a big airfield as well as learning a little bit of car control and having a fun time.
Does anyone else fancy this?
Scott & I are booked in the the day with both cars.

We also run Activity Days where you can have fun in your car, increase your driving ability and confidence, meet new faces and try some of the exercises experienced on an Airfield Driver Training Day at a cost of less than £37 per car. Have a go at the high speed bend, circuits in the afternoon and the slalom course which is open all day on most days.

Roger and I did that last year with a Ferrari club, was quite a good day and you had plenty of space to spin out completely.
However, the surface of the main area is a bit patchy, so you'll lose lots of rubber, especially if you feel like giving it large like the 430 driver who was there when we were - I couldn't resist the odd burn either, esp after stalling every time at the end of the twisty track - damn carburetor. You learn a bit more about your car in a safe environment, and for the price, you can't beat the day for value...
Still remember the guy with the 328/348 spider's comment after a ride in my car, 'Wow, so much power!'
However, I think a seven's type was the fastest around the cones, esp with Mr Walsh driving it!!!

Agree with the comment regards surface, prepare to shred a set of tyres! We used to go there on the Run/brung days and the rear tyre was always a goner.
It's no good for my green beast then on supersoft sticky tyres. It would have to be the red one then - are you sure there's nothing I can hit?

IMO you are wasting your slicks on the concrete knobbly surface that passes for a track. You'l be just as well off using part worn road tyres. My Son Matt was quicker on the quarter mile strip on his road spec' R1 then the guy next to him on a tuned and tyred R1. The road tyre was ideal for what is essentially a poor condition road.
Just another thing worth noting - when you book it comes up with a box that says Passenger 1 - if you put your passengers name in - it will double the price as it thinks you want to bring two cars. To remedy this you can either call them on 08707 547 547 or cancel that booking and start again & leave that box blank.
You can bring passengers for free & they can share driving with you - total price £35.00. Just call them if there's any confusion.

Exactly why I won't be taking my race car.
(don't have a full set of spare tyres - though mine are road legal with the amount of tread left)WICKER MAN said:
Sue and I are provisionally booked but we're not sure which car to take. TVR, MGF or ZR?
Does the instuctor sit beside every driver? I'n thinking that three people in a two seater will be a bit of a squeeze.

The Instructor does not sit in the car with you, they tell you what to do before setting off on the activity and then advise on your next go..
Saying that I think if you ask nicely they will sit in with you and give some tuition for a couple of runs. Andy sat in with me on the figure of 8 circuit and gave a bit of instruction.
