Are the chips shown in the shop (link below) remapable at a later date?

http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/V8Per

I'm tempted to get one as my car is standard and sure it would benefit from the chip, but wouldn't want to buy another chip if i did want to get it properly mapped by Mark himself at a later date.

Cheers

This off-the-shelf chip won't make any difference to the costs if you have a Mark Adams setup subsequently i.e. he will throw this chip away and give you a new one; there will be no cost saving. What you're paying for here is the map on the chip. The chip itself costs pence.

If you have a Mark Adams setup subsequently you will pay for the rolling road time and Mark's time check your engine over and then tweak the map to a perfect tune for your engine.

I think your first statement is incorrect, this chip will not be replaced by Mark, just updated with a new, customised, map.

The advert does say:

"We can also tailor the software to an individual car and owner at our four wheel drive rolling road facilities at Cheltenham or Gatwick. Note that there are separate charges for this service."

This is a remappable chip, that is what you pay the money for (my tornado "chip" conversion cost this, plus Marks time, plus RR time etc).

You're buying a 25p EPROM chip with a map in it. The map (i.e. the data) is what costs the money. If you buy this and then ask Mark Adams to do a rolling road setup on your car, he may reuse the 25p chip but he probably won't. Apart from that 25p, none of the money you're spending on this chip would be recovered if you subsequently asked Mark to do a rolling road setup.

I've see that ad too, my question is, without Marks tweaks and rolling road, is it going to give significant benefits?

Thanks

TBH, I was under the impression that Mark had a 'one off' charge up front for the Chip whatever route you went. Why dont you just email Mark, he is always very informative & helpful.

Probably. Mark has got the mid range tractability and throttle response a lot better than the originals, and you will probably find it is more economical, too. But it does depend to some extent how close a fit the 'generic' chip is to your engine.
