M25/A12 Crashed Diablo (30th November)
Discussion
For those who remember the thread from 30th November, and the rather sad tale of me `bending` my Diablo (www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=332101).
Well for all those that were very kind and supportive of what a total `Oh Bugger` momment it was, I'm pleased to report that today, 4th May 07, my baby is back on the road.
I'd especially like to thank the guys from Fullbridge Restorations in Maldon (01621 852320) who have done a wonderful job. True craftsmanship (you know they're `old world` craftsmen when they have no website or e-mail, just a fax :-)
OK it takes time to get the bits, especially when the factory have to make them for you, but after 5 months, we're back on the road for the summer.

The one thing I learnt from the exercise was that (I guess unsurprisingly) a main dealer isn't always your best hope for a good fix. They quoted £68k +VAT PLUS "Whatever we find when we take it apart", whereas Fullbridge did it for £60k all in. That was the difference between the insurers writing it off (paying me £110k guaranteed value and then selling the carcass to recover the rest) and having it repaired for me.
The "Whatever we find when we take it apart" is like the kiss of death to a quote, and was probably put there as I guess they wouldn't have minded it being written off, as then they could sell me a new one, Doh, didn't see that coming.
Attending Auto-Italia at Brooklands Sat 5th May, say Hi if you come by.
Thanks again for all the good will messages back when it happened.

Nigel,
Excellent news, well done and yet another person I know who owns my favourite Lambo
An Essexer - which is a positive - so I expect to see you exercising the beast along with the 430's Murcie's Diablo's etc at the next Essex run
Of course, should you require the beast immortazlied photographically then drop me a post via my profile - Jonny5's 6.0 worked out beautifully

Nigel,
fantastic news, your car is looking perfect. It's lovely to see it back together again. Yours was the first Lambo I ever sat in (on the Isle of Wight about 4 years ago - I had the yellow '72 Corvette convertible ). I've always loved the Countach and Diablo, and sitting in yours got the old grey matter going and culminated in me picking up my Countach next week. So in a way, I feel a particular fondness for your car, as it's the one that really started me on the way to realising a dream I never thought could happen. I look forward to seeing it again some day.
