Hi all, not a new topic I know but have decided to trade my 911 in for either a 430 or G. Guess its all about opinions and personal choice but would be interested to hear from anyone who has been lucky enough to decide between the two - and you're reasons. If anyone has any recommendations for particular dealers who you've had good experiences with then would be great to hear from you as well. Cheers all.

Good question..I've never driven either one but from an "outsiders" perception, the 430 I'd expect to be a better drive, hold its value a little better, whilst the G is more exclusive, driven by someone that doesn't like red cars!

Doesn't Traxx own one of each? Might be worth getting in touch with him for his opinion.

If your profession involves lots of "cutting", "tinting", colours and perms then you should buy the Ferrari - otherwise come on over to the dark side and buy a proper car! evil biglaugh evil

Indeed he does. Both cars have their plus and minus points. The only real solution is to follow Traxx's example

Surely its not fair to ask Traxx, he didnt actually have to CHOSE between the two.

Although, you could argue its a dilema he faces every day!

if youve never owned a ferrari then buy the F430 first, then when you see sense and move to lamborghini you will never look back and thing "what if...."

I was also considering a Gallardo previously. Three things put me off:
1. Depreciation seemed steeper than 360/430, I suspect largely because it's much more of a niche market so less potential buyers.
2. Nearest dealer to me is >150 miles, right royal pain if anything goes wrong
3. I didn't fit in one paperbag (well not without having the right hand indicator permanently on!)

is the old money, new money theory still relevant?

I've been lucky enough to own both and would say that the Lambo shades it. I think the Ferrari handled better but only when driving at 8/10ths, the Lambo was built better, looked better, I always thought the Ferrari had a couple of awkward angles at times.
I loved both mind you.

Worth thinking if you're going to do many track days, went up to Bedford GT at Easter and mate got 1/2 way round in standard G before being black flagged... no problems in the 430

Can't go wrong with either I'd say.

I got the 430 because I preferred the drive, and went for the F1 (which I think is in a different league to F1s of old and really, really like it). I don't really like 4wd, and the Gallardo definitely feels a heavier car.

Certain angles the Gallardo looks better, much prefer the rear of the 430. Gallardo sounds better. Performance pretty much on par, I think.

In terms of build quality I don't see anything in it between the two. Depreciation will probably be about the same, although the Ferrari will probably be easier to sell on in a hurry.

Go for the one that ticks most boxes for you.

Gallardo
Looks better
Better exhaust
Easier to drive (or at least my wife thinks so)
Much better grip in the wet/ice
Interior looks fantastic (if you have branding and carbon pack)
Better hi-fi navigation
Much more exclusive
Feels very fast at 100
No storage space

Ferrari 430
Handles better
Faster between 50-100
Fantastic brakes (if you have the CC option)
Much more comfortable (if you have race seats)
F1 gearbox is easier than e-gear to drive in busy city traffic
Infact the F1 box is just better than the e-gear
Doesn’t feel fast at 100 – which means it can be very license threatening
Much more storage space

All in all I think of my cars the Ferrari is a better car - this is particularly true when you take it to a racetrack
However you need to bear in mind that my 430 has CCB, race seats, dual tone leather, C back – ie >£25,000 of extras
The Gallardo Spyder also has a lot of extras but these are more focused on the look – ie branding pack, full carbon package, wheels, leather pack

So imo if you are looking at spending ~£150,000 on a new 430 or new Gallardo (both full spec) I think you should go for the 430
If instead you are looking at spending £125,000 for a minimum spec 1 year old 430 or a nearly new hi-spec Gallardo I would say the Gallardo is probably the better choice (although the Ferrari will probably hold its value better)
Clearly any further reduction in you budget is going to leave you with lots of Gallardo options but no 430 options
However if the budget is <100k then your real comparison should be pre 06 Gallardo vs 360CS

I really like the 430, but for me the winning aspects are the CC brakes and the race seats – now how many cars currently on the market have these options?

These comment clearly relate to the coupe – if you want a spyder/spider then imo the Lamborghini is only choice

Of course the other issue is that if you want a new one to your own spec then your only choice is the Lambo since buying a new Ferrari is a whole art on its own

Two very different cars & my thoughts come from ownership of Gallardo coupe (04 model), 430 Coupe & Gallardo Spyder for good measure.

430 Coupe in every area bar the visual impact you get from a Lambo + the strange effect a Lamborghini's have on other road users, strange Jedi mind tricks .... Letting you out of traffic, nearly crashing to let you past!

If you’re concerned about depreciation, teacher don't waste your time with CCB for the road on either car, they aren't worth £10k & may put the next buyer off.

430 is in a different league when your really pushing on, CST via the magneto is awesome & trims any advantage the Gallardo has in the wet. yes

430 Everytime! bow

i was only in the market for a convertible version of a murci/gallardo/430 & the murci is too impractical & i couldnt spend that much money on a 430 spider when i had serious reservations with its styling, so as a previous 5 time ferrari owner i bought my 1st lamborghini, the gallardo spyder, and with the amount of time i drive it in europe i have to say i wouldnt change anything about the car at all.

6 months ago I had fun choosing between several pleasant options (inc Lambos) and went with the 430. A couple of thousand miles later, no regrets at all, and not even the slightest interest in changing it. It's a very nice and surprisingly practical car.

I can't believe that. My standard F430 Spider got thrown off at Bedford. They said it went way over the meter and that was with me backing off for the three mics!

Why would you say that Doug? For sunny, dry days, I think the F430 Spider is pretty much perfect (you get more exposure to that intoxicating sound) whereas I would be tempted to have a Gallardo coupe for the winter because of its traction advantage.
