Hi guys. I'm a BMW owner (2 E30 M3's) who may soon be a Porsche owner. My track car is rather low, and although the splitter can clear speed bumps, the exhaust/manifold sometimes scrape on them. It makes you wince when it happens.

Anyway......with LHD 993 RS's being around the 35 grand mark, and LHD GT3's being a few grand more, I am temped by one of these. Or perhaps I'll be a bit soft-arsed and get a GT3 aerokit on a 996 C4?

My question is, how do these cars fare over speed bumps? Or what about in multi-storey carparks....when you head down the steep ramps.....does the splitter catch on the ground? I take it none of this is an issue for standard 996/993/Boxsters?

I am a GP and I visit folks at home every day so speed bumps are basically unavoidable, so I could do with the benefit of your experience. Thanks.

Dunno about the 993RS, but my 964RS was remarkably agile over moderate speed humps, despite being so low that you couldn't get a normal jack under it. This is basically because it didn't have a huge splitter at the front, which sods up all the angles, nor did it have anything dangling beneath the sill line.

I would be wary of a 996 with GT3 aerokit if you are heavily into track work. There is more to a GT3 than meets the eye, but I would be very tempted by the 993RS and keep the change, especially with the new GT3 coming out to erode values a bit more. Don't see them making a 993RS Mk2

Cheers Domster. Mind you, looking at the front splitter on the non-CS 993 RS, it does look rather low. Obviously the CS version's splitter is even lower. I have read on this forum about a bloke who uses a 993 RS every day. I think he has a GT2 as well(!!), I suppose this implies he can get around the shop OK.
I did notice that the 964 RS lacks a low front splitter. Tempting car that. I have Motec on my Sport Evo E30 M3.....it transformed my car and it sounds like it suits the 964 RS too.

Ninemeister does MoTec conversions for the 964RS. Gets about 320bhp normally, for a reasonable cost IMHO (about 4k, although don't take my word for it as inflation may have taken place since I enquired). Anyway, I think he can get 360bhp normally aspirated out of the 964RS engine given enough time and dosh.

The 993RS front splitter shouldn't be too vicious. Scottster had the bodykit on his normal 993Carrera and although not lowered, it didn't look as severe as some front ends I've seen.

Cheers

I must have a soft arsed car then!
I have to take it steady over speed bumps or it can catch the front(996 Gt3 kit, sport suspension.)

Should be alright in 964RS or 993RS if u take them GENTLY, but IMHO, the GT3 snout sticks out too far in front of the wheels and it is almost impossible NOT to scrape the front spliter.

However, the other problem is speed TABLES where one has to straddle the bump or put one wheel up on the bump.

I have a 993RS (not the CS bodykit) and live in London. Car is fine over most speed bumps if you take it v. slow in first, but I've still had a number of scrapes. Some petrol stations are difficult, if you have to go down the pavement and then up on to the road.

Having said all that - get the car! I will never sell it, it is that good!
