Right, partially hypothetical question. Say you had an RV8 running on SU's or worse Strombergs, which Lucas fuel injection system would you go for, the Flapper or Hotwire, and why?

Discuss.

Hotwire, no flapper obstructing the airway and it compensates for engine wear or cam changes within reason

Hey, I've just split my sides mate! What a cool link, you need to get it circulated a bit more

I think they are well circulated already, as are these haynes ones which i think are even funnier:

Ok, good good. While MS is a noble offering, I don't have the hardware around me to convert from twin SU's to MS, unlike the other two options.

Another similar question, ok, not similar at all, supplementary perhaps...

What if a hotwire setup with a 4l chip in was run on a 3.5 engine. Presumably to an extent the AFM would compensate, as it would see less air and squirt less fuel accordingly, but...it might get a little confuzzled by the lack of fuel needed with respect to throttle position...however will the setup work, in the interim, while i find a 3.9/4l block to shoe horn in? I'm thinking if the engine ran rich I could knock back the fuel pressure slightly to compensate.

You're still hung up on the air flow meter.
The hardware you already know you need is the inlet, injectors, throttle body and plenum which could come from a 3.5 or 3.9.
If you use Megasquirt you don't need a flapper or hotwire as it works off manifold pressure or vacuum.
Eliot will tell you what else you need but I don't think there is much. But then again it is still new to me.

Really it depends what you are going to use it for? from a personal point of view i love the old flapper system as there is much more you can do to it yourself and cheap upgrades to get it running right!, power output is neither here nor there my old 3.9 race motor made 343 bhp on power enginerings rollers with flapper

If its Lucas you are after, then the daddy of Lucas systems is the GEMS. The best bit is it is self mapping, a couple of hard power runs after tweaking and it will reprogramme itself thumbup.

Nah, this is for a different project...I've lots of RV8 cars basically its a 3.5 car that while im waiting for a few other bits and bobs to come through I've kept myself busy ditcing the carbs in favour of fuel injection, hence the first question...ultimately the plan is to throw in a 3.9/4l engine which will match up the current mis-match.

Easiest way is a Offy 360 & a Weber/Carter/Edelbrock 500!

And the webber did very well in a test versus fuel injection So well in fact, it was as good as the efi power wise.

Sadly that's not an option either, cos despite having spare carbs, a 500 and a pair of 600's, I've no manifolds spare to mount them to, and the whole idea was to get things working with what I have around me.
