Did anyone catch this on the telly or see it at the circuit? Kelvin Burt, coming out of Seagrave by the looks of it, tipped into a barrel roll and vaulted the barrier, coming to rest on the other side eek

Thankfully no-one was hurt, although looked as though Kelvin was taken to the medical centre for a check-up (not surprising, given the circumstances).

Considering recent talk about spectator safety on another thread I'm glad that it's as good as it is but I think it should continue to be monitored.

They say that section is not a spectator viewing point (none there anyway just a road and trees) but I was a little surprised to see 2 people walking down the road further along and not even turn round.

There was at least one marshal that came every close to getting hit (you can see in the TV coverage the car appears to flip over him, although I think it was more to the side) - very pleased that no one was hurt, but a reminder of what can happen.

I noticed that! I suppose the noise from the track must have drowned out any noise from the crash, but that's hard to believe, there must have been some physical movement from the ground vibrations or something.

I must admit i feared the worst when i was watching this, particularly as the TV shots seemed to show a Marshal crouching down over something on the ground just after the crash.

Luckily everyone is ok, but it re-inforces that you can't rely on fences for 100% safety. You still need to watch what's going on around you.

Was going to post the this very thread but you've beaten me to it. I have a close up or two of the damage I'll post up soon. It happened on the 1st lap and I was just getting up to take pictures so I missed it with the camera but caught it with the eye.

Some one I spoke to got some great shots of it.

Good parking though. Parallel with the hedge

I was at Thruxton today. Was spectating next to the complex when this happened - got to be the maddest thing I've ever seen! yikes

I saw Kelvin pull off a nice move down the inside (for 3rd place IIRC) entering the complex. I then carried on watching him as I knew this would put him out of sink with the other cars due to taking the first bend so tight. It looked like he had made it through ok....next thing his car was flying through the air!

Luckily (as others have said) where he went off is not a viewing area. Although there did seem to be a few spectators slightly further around the bend - not sure if they had some kind of special permission or what.

Does anyone know if I can view the incident on the web anywhere? What actually set him rolling? - tagged by another car and dug into the ground off the track??

I think he was tagged by another car. And asking a marshal what happened he seemed to say the same thing.

Cartwheeled over off the track, over the grass and over the fence.

I was walking along there just before the race. The viewing spot to the right of the incident is open to anyway who cares to walk all the way around.

Marshals weren't stopping people walking where the car landed during the race, so someone could have easily been hurt.

David - sorry the pictures are quite big, I'll come back and resize them soon.

Just saw this on the re-run of BTCC. Holy Cow!! Seriously impressive crash, goes to show how strong these cars are built though and as everyone else has said, very lucky no-one was caught up in that!

interesting video clip...... but i have to say, what on earth was that marshal up to? as the car approaches, her collegue legs it, but all she does is turn her back, as if to say if i can't see it, i wont be hit. then after the car comes to rest, her collegue runs to assist the driver, but she just stands there and looks, then later on she's sobbing on the shoulder of another marshal.
now i know its pretty tabboo the criticise the marshals, but her behaviour, from what we see on that video clip, doesn't look very professional!

Yeah I saw that too!

I think it was a couple of photographers - things aren't interesting to them unless they know they have a pic of it.

Xvid and unlike the ITV coverage above because this is Setanta who did the live coverage there's more than one camera angle.
