I notice that I don’t have a crank sensor fitted to my car (03', 3.6L, Tam), the lead is just flopping around in the engine bay. I know where its possible to get hold of one, but is it as easy to fit as just plugging it in? What else would I need to do?

What will it do for me if I do fit it?

there are quite a few leads floating arround in the engine bays, but I believe there by design as the loom was designed for another car. Would doubt that adding more sensors would make it quicker - how about soem go faster stripes, if not perhaps the supercharger option...

Once you have reached red line in desired gear just start rocking your body forwards then backwards for about a minute. the rocking horse style momentum is worth another 2 - 3 mph

The crank sensor is bolted onto the top of the bell housing behind the engine, are you sure you are it missing it. You have to remove the air box to get in there, maybe you already have one and it is not plugged in?

I think it was the cerb SP6 that had the sensor, and maybe thats where the wiring loom comes from?
the water valve and crank sensor are not fitted on the sag but are on the loom

I had the air box off when I was replacing the HT leads a couple of weeks ago. It was then that I noticed the lead. It was clearly marked up as the crank sensor.

I think I'm right in saying that the Tam uses a lost spark system, so that must mean that fuel is being squirted in all the time rather than on each power stroke of the respective cylinder. I don’t think that this can be very efficient or develops maximum power. A puddle of fuel is surely not as good as a properly distributed mist - i.e. bad stoichiometry and flame front.

I was wondering if the SP6 crank and casing were already drilled tapped or otherwise machined to take the crank sensor?

The crank sensor on a T350 was mentioned in this Topic assumed they were fitted on all Speed 6 engined cars.

you will have a crank sensor fitted but the lead you're looking at maybe the redundent one for a cam sensor, not needed until you go sequential injection and/or variable cam timing that's ecu controlled .. both of which i believe are part of the ricardo engine upgrades?

Well we're running a SP6 supercharged in our T350 race car .. we're part way through the mapping process and the results are already promising .. 380bhp on 1/3rd throttle It's an Autocraft engine though so I'm only involved at teh final stages.

As far as Sp6 upgrades to normally aspirated engines I don't do anything myself. You can get high flowing back boxes and decats for the restricted tamora and T350 cars, the Tuscans don't seem to be restrictive to the same extent .. But there's precious little that can be donw without speinding money .. they're nicely mapped, the air filters are massive so no gains there, the exhausts are longish lengths and the cats are fairly free flowing ..

In short unless you're going forced induction i can't see there being much to be done that will give good hp gains for sensible money. i've done a fair bit of playing with Sp6 cars now and never found anything that's really marketable.

Now the super charger! Thats the way to go. When do you see this being marketed, near future or some way off.

Thanks for the reply. Ah yes, I guess I misread the lead thinking it was the crank rather than the cam sensor lead. Still it is sequential firing that I'm trying to achieve. Do you know what it will do for me if I do get it done? What changes does it involve? Is it something I can do myself?? What is the Ricardo package and where would I get that done. Lastly, £?

Sorry for the torrent of questions.
