Hi,

First post here so just looking for some info on a Monaro VXR, I apologise if my questions have been done to death, I've just spent quite a bit of time trawling through old threads looking for some info but as you know this can take some time.

As I have mentioned I am looking for a Monaro VXR, which is reasonably new, say on a 55 plate onwards.

What kind of price range am I looking at for that year of VXR or newer?

What should I be looking out for on this model and year - any niggles, faults etc?

As I live in the North East, near Middlesbrough, where is my nearest dealer, actually I'll re-phrase that; where is the best dealer near my location to visit for such a car?

Am I correct in thinking that a dealer is able to add the various additions made to the VXR500, to the 6.0L VXR over time?

What kind of service schedule does the VXR 6.0L need? I have heard it is once per year and that it is relatively cheap? Hopefully this is the case.

How much does it take to fill the tank up in a VXR and how far will that get you in general?

Also does the VXR benefit from 97 ron, v-power etc?

Finally as I will probably be wanting to modify the VXR slightly, what are the most common mods done to the car; engine and styling wise? I heard a VXR once and it sounded superb, apparently the only modification was an exhaust system.

Does anyone have any video/sound clips of their VXR with an exhaust system upgrade?

I apologise again for the amount of questions, hopefully they won't provide too hard a task to answer.

Thanks in advance.

Greg

Not sure, try looking in the classifieds on PistonHeads. I would say £20k+

All 6.0 VXRs were built at the same time, the only fault that seems to appear a lot is chipping paint on the door handles.

Not sure, I am sure that people up north could advise you on a good dealer (if there is one!)

AFAIK only Greens and Picador via Wortec are the only dealers that would do that

Correct, I think my 2nd year service was about £150-£200

63 litres from memory so around £60+, typical range depends on your right foot, I can average anywhere between 11 and 25mpg

For modified cars yes, unmodified I was advised to always use premium fuel but never really noticed any difference

Finally as I will probably be wanting to modify the VXR slightly, what are the most common mods done to the car; engine and styling wise? I heard a VXR once and it sounded superb, apparently the only modification was an exhaust system.
Cat-back and headers are the most popular, then you go on to AP brakes, Superchargers etc etc. Most popular seems to be Wortec.

Yep With Headers

Apology accepted

Other mods are a Ripshifter Gear linkage, changes the whole feel when changing gear - and AVO suspension to give a much more surefooted drive.

Thank you for the replies gents, much appreciated.

Is the Wortec cat back system alone worth getting, as in does it alter the sound dramatically?

What is the cost of this cat back system and does it invalidate warranty?

Finally who are the main suppliers/fitters who stock this system and all other Monaro aftermarket parts and where are they located?

Thanks again

It does make a noticable difference. They used to come with a set of centre silencer boxes as well to make the car a little more subdued but most run without. Now, I said "DID" because they now have a fancy switchable system. Make sure you get the remap to go with it, the car will feel much more responsive and give you a lil' extra kick

What is the cost of this cat back system

The cat back has been acknowledge by Vauxhall and will not directly invalidate the warranty. Obviously, they wont warranty the exhaust it self, but you should not have any problems with warranty if you take the car to an "friendly" dealer

Most of the major people you need to know have ad. banners at the top of the page.

It has been mentioned that the VXR has a 63 litre tank, so £60 plus to fill it up to the brim.

What kind of mileage can I expect to get from a full tank?

I've heard the combined mpg of the VXR is 17-18mpg?

Thanks

350 miles at sensible speeds on the motorway or dual carriageway, 250-300 if you do a lot of around town stuff, least thats the kind of figures I usually see and the VXR should be about the same.

Thought up a few more questions:

What tax bracket does a 2006 VXR fall into, how much per year?

Also looking at interior pics of VXR's it seems to accomodate a double din headunit? Can this unit easily be taken out and replaced with an aftermarket double din screen such as the Kenwood DDX-7029?

What facia and wiring is required to accomodate this?

Thanks in advance.

Tax bracket is the highest one...

Double DIN is possible - it isn't a standard double din, but you can get an adaptor - see discussion here:

If it was first registered before 23rd march 2006 its £200 a year, after its £300 a year rising to £400 next year.

P.s if you drive in london you get around 180 miles to a tank cry

Though from the blackwall tunnel to south kent I averaged 31mpg last week!

On an 06 VXR what are the most likely things to 'go wrong'?

Also what are the costs for the likely things that need replacing, brake discs and pads, tyres etc?

Thanks again!

On the fuel consumption I think East London has fuel pixies that suck fuel out of cars, my 2.0l Civic only used to manage 21mpg and the same miles to the tank, it used to cost £43 to fill that up, around £55 for the 'ro so not too bad (he tells himself, while knowing the awful truth )

Not too sure on general probs as haven't been here long enough but with tyres they're around £170 for the pirellis it comes with or you could get Falken 452's which are suppossed to be pretty good for alot cheaper.
