996 facelift - future values?
Discussion
straw poll -
facelift 2002 996 bought for £30k today
likely value in 18 months time?
£25k?? less?
are there any clever sites that do depreciation modelling? my excel skills are being tested to the max here!
Background - I am trying to justify the purchase of another 911 to futurewife (in the year of our wedding - its a tough ask....and she is an accountant
)
Am i on a hiding to nothing arguing that the bulk of the depreciation will have been done in the first 5 years on life - so a well maintained warrentied 996 represents great value.....
...well kinda.
any opinions?
Cheers,
BERGS

2002 facelift for 30K sounds very good value already, so - unless its done a high mileage or has some stories - sounds you're onto a good one.
Price in 18 months will depend on mileage, condition and colour. Can't see it going down as far as 25K. The cheapest 2001 facelift I saw (recently) was 26K with 120,000 miles on it.
Keep the mileage below 70K ish, make sure you get a 111pt check and warrantee it, keep the warrantee on it, and I reckon it'll still be worth 28K to 30K in 18 months time.
(unless its red, with savannah interior and tiptronic of course) ...

chancers price!
(no offence
)
... Not the first time I've been called a chancer , and hopefully not the last. On the other hand , that price is what you would call an opening gambit , the colour combo is very much personal taste and I would buy the same again , but the car is pristine , is OPC warranted (unusual for an Irish car as unfortunately we just don't look after our cars as we should over here) and finally , and most importantly , Irish car prices are bloody ridiculous due to insane Government tax , therefore (if you do your research) you'll see the price isn't all that outlandish after all.
Ah shite ... Delete all of the above .. I prefer being a chancer!!

Sold my absolutely minted 29K 02 privately for 33250 last week. Works out at 16% depreciation in 11 months. Just as well I negotiated 2K off his sticker price when I bought it, otherwise it'd have been over 20% of a hit in less than a year!
I think the major part of depresiation is the dealer bid/offer spread, they have to make a living.
If you buy private smartly, you could get it down below 10% PA easy.
I'm in a similar position - I'm picking up my 2002 Targa tomorrow from an OPC. getting through the Finance Committee (The Wife) took some doing - but eventually she OK'd it. I've got it from an OPC so has teh 12 month warrenty, on 29,000 on teh clock but i do expect to do 15 - 20,000 a year for a couple of years. I think it should be worth £25,000 if I keep it tidy. I recommend keeping a small 'pot' of cash locked away in the garage - and paying cash for everything!

You could get it down a bit, not sure about 10%, that would have meant I'd have had to find my minted 20K mile 02 C2 with an OPC warranty a year ago privately for about 36500. I looked pretty widely around at the tome and there weren't many decent, low mileage ones around much below 40, and certainly very few North of the border. I agree I paid a wee bit into Kenny Dunns pocket (the Edinburgh Indie I bought it from) but to be honest I saw a few pre-facelift sheds at the time in the 35+ range.....
Either way, I'm not actually complaining - I had some very memorable drives in it for my 6 1/2 grand and loved every minute of the ownership experience (apart from selling it!). I will definitely have another a few years down the line.
Hi Bergs2 I paid 38,500 for mine from an OPC. From my position (I haven't a clue what I'm talking about mechanically basicaly and it will be a first car doing 15,000 a yr) I thought going to an OPC would be best - its MOT'd etc for 12 months has the 12 month warrenty, 4 new tyres, refurbed wheels, they've chucked in some updated discs for the Sat Nav too whicg are over £400. So I feel I've paid about £37,000 plus warrenty plus discs. They found the air con wasn't great so they've fixed that too - so all in all I'm pretty happy.
Its only done 29,000 and its a 02 plate - it doesn't feel like i've paid over the odds ...though tell that to the wife...!

you got to take the £895 for the warenty out of the maths as that was insurance not depreciation.
I to got mine from kenny dunn & all I can say is I walked into the deal with a saab worth £6k, drove a 996 for a year then walked out with a audi worth £4k, I ain't complaining.
Did you sell yours back to Kenny?

I'd already taken the ADDITIONAL £500 I gave Kenny for the OPC inspection/warranty out of the equation! (He gave me a deal against his own warranty i.e I went OPC rather than his own cover and paid the difference)
I didn't sell it back to him, I sold it privately to a local guy near Aberdeen. After advertising it I'd actually half changed my mind and decided not to sell after all....and then I get a phone call and a genuine buyer - it was a bit of a quandry
Looks like I'm coming back down to Edinburgh to look at a beast of a Cayenne, not at Kenny's though.
