Off to Le Mans for the first time this year and thinking what photo gear to take. Currently have...

350d
70-200 F4 L IS
Tamron 28-75

...but I have problems with the Tamron at the moment (soft images - see previous thread) and I don't think it's wide enough.

Top of the list for it's replacement is a 17-40 F4L which I used in New York and was rather pleased with the quality and size - but will this be suitable? Most obvious choice would be a 17-55 F2.8 IS for the low light stuff but I'm struggling to justify the extra expense and I don't fancy that much on an ef-s mount lens.

Anything else worth taking other than perhaps a couple of spare batteries?

I had my first rip to Le Mans in 2005 one of the hottest on record. I would reccomend you take whatever you feel comfortable with lugging around....it's a big place.
