Oil Pressure Switch

My original oil pressure switch has given up the ghost and started leaking. I replaced with a much smaller 'equivalent' from a Ford main dealer. It fits but does not produce a reading on the dial gauge - with ignition switched on the dial goes to 100 psi and when started goes to 0.

Any ideas?

sounds like you have a "switch" for a light - ie either there's enough pressure (light off) or there isn't (light on). A pressure gauge uses a different sensor with variable resistance.

Thanks for quick reply - do you know where I can get a replacement? The original is cylindrical (50mm by 25mm)?
