Saw a metallic grey one near to my place last weekend, just wondering how many they made, must be quite rare.

Nope, not rare at all. Well they might be rare in the UK, but if you consider the relationship between 2-door and 4-ddor Skylines is pretty similar to that between 2-door and 4-door BMW 3-series. In Japan they're really just a regular sedan with a few quick versions.

the four doors are still quite rare over here,we only wanted coupes until the last few years when hte supercool 4 doors became the popular model to have if you want to be different, there are a few around but they are still rare in comparison to the coupes

Roads are full of them here.

I think they even fitted the r34(?) running gear to the stagia estate towards the end.

yes The Stagea is basically just a wagon body on a Skyline chassis - most are RB25 NA RWD or AWD, with 2.5 turbo AWD versions a bit rarer, and a few very rare cars with R34 (iirc) GTR running gear in them.

When I get my skyline (which I will one day cloud9 ) it will be a 4dr R32 yes

I love the look of them compared to the coupe's.

And because they are less desirable (god knows why) they are rarer and cheaper over here

Autech did a few with the R34 front ends too

4 doors there's quite a few of, which engine and drive train they have is a mixed bag, could be turbos or non turbos, 4wd or RWD etc etc.
There's a few GTS4's around though I quite like them I have to say, prefer the coupe look but they both have their merits and downfalls.

That R34 nose is a big improvement over the original:

The four-doors range from the 2.0 non-turbo auto-box variety (cheap as chips family runabout over here) to the 'sleeper' 2.5 turbo models (still cheap, but just as tunable evil )

Check out some of these bargains ($1 = £0.37):
