Oil pressure sender adaptor
Discussion
I've just come to a dead end trying to locate this part anywhere.
The original part was leaking whilst abroad, the garage I took it to tried to fix the leak but the part snapped (it was a fracture causing the leak it seams). They managed to cobble something together from their machine shop which did the trick but still leaked a little. The leak has now got very bad and I need to replace it.
I've tried V8 Developments, RPI, TVR Power, Dulford, Demon Tweeks and a few other places but none can get me one.
Has anyone any idea where I could get one or know what threads are used on this part.
To clarify; it's the small brass union that screws on to the sender (pressure sender for the gauge, not the switch) which then screws in to the oil pump housing (it's definitely leaking past the thread, it's not leaking from the sender itself).

I had the same problem a while ago (bugger to get the bit that was left in the engine out!), apparently its not uncommon. The factory had a batch which had badly cut threads, I recut the offending item 1/2" UNF I'm pretty sure. You may be able to get an off the shelf adapter from Mocal(thinkauto) / CAI(greengauges) / ETB, it might be easier to have a local engineer to knock one up. You want 1/2"UNF - 1/8"NPTF if my records are correct.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
Spend, I'm not surprised they fail the original part is very thin walled. How sure are you that it's 1/2"UNF - 1/8"NPTF ?
I've just stumbled across this site but it doesn't seem to offer that size, from memory it looked something like the centre top one.
Matt, the item you mentioned doesn't tally up with what Spend suggested. I'm not sure what is correct ATM.
Gadaffi, having one made up is not a problem. Just making sure of having the correct one made is my concern. The one I currently have is not the exact correct fitting.
I've just had a thought anyway, I'll give one of the breakers a call in the morning. Hopefully they'll have something for me.
Thanks again

Try these people:-

I seem to remember that the thread is smaller at the tip than at the end, ie. if you screw it in tight it may crack the casting.
I also seem to remember having to wrap a little plumbers tape around the thread to stop it leaking and to give a good tight seal.
I could be wrong through.....

OK had a scout round
Mocal www.thinkauto.com/ in 'early warnings' section lists thread sizes for RV8 as 1/2"UNF
CAI/greengauges & ETB most senders are 1/8" x 27 NPT
IIRC www.etbinstruments.com/ had some adapters ~ they just have garbage in my browser so may only supply Win customers..
Now we have quite a few Landy Indies up here and many were surprised they didnt have adapters when I asked around... Knew exactly what I wanted - said it should be pretty common - but they'd never been asked? I ended up getting one sent from Blackpool (God Bless Mike Williams who did warn me they were a bit of a gash batch) Sorry, cant be more help...
I have subsequently read that on serp front covers it is possible to drill out and tap extra galleries if all else fails, but I suspect that may be beyond the scope of your request.

ETA: looks like CAI might do one: www.greengauges.com/help/faq21.asp

Andy from www.greengauges.com has just sent me a 1/8"NPT-1/2"UNF adapter free of charge, top bloke.
I'll report back once I fit it next week.
Thanks again.

Good call, on that one... Just one question some are supposed to have a slight taper ~ others seem keen on the ptfe (that is nearly impossible to get on without covering the orifice - well for clumsy ole me anyway!). I really would be happier with a proper one - whatever that is..

Just to finish this one off. The 1/2"UNF to 1/*"NPT did the trick, MOT is passed and I'm back in the saddle
I bought one from Demon Tweeks as well on andyy's recommendation; the part is far better quality than the standard jobbie and you'd be hard pushed to break it if you tried (unlike the standard one that breaks if you look at it wrong). The 1/2"UNF part isn't tapered on the Demon Tweeks supplied one and bottoms out on to a dowty washer (supplied) to provide a good seal. The 1/8"NPT (sender) end is tapered but the surrounding area is nice and chunky and doesn't break.
Part number LMA 033 available from a few suppliers if you search the web.
I never thought I could write so much about an adapter
