I have had an Aston V8 Vantage since January 2006 but the time has now come to start considering a change.

I am on the list for the new Aston DBS and I am a little worried it is a bit over priced at around £170,000, but I drove the gallardo at Milbrook just over a month ago and I am now seriously considering a Lambo.

Whilst I am sure that the Gallardo would be the sensible choice, I am worried that I would regret not spending the extra money for the LP640.

Does anybody have any idea of the replacement timetable for the Gallardo and the Murcielago? I wouldn't want to buy something that will be replaced within a short timescale.

I know it is a nice dilemna to have, but I certainly don't want to get this decision wrong!

Just a thought...

no idea as to replacement schedules for either the Gallardo or the Murciélago BUT, as a hedge against needless financial losses, why not buy a used version of either car until the situation is more clear?

As long as you buy a car with a known (good!!) history, the initial sting of depreciation is removed and you get to reinvest the remainder against the Lamborghini you'll replace it with, if you actually want to do that, of course!

Your choice of supplying dealer for either car is crucial, and there are ways of ensuring you don't choose the worst kind. One way is being on PistonHeads and another is joining LCUK is another... check our website at www.lamborghiniclubuk.com for joining details or reply to me via PH if you want to discuss that some more.

I'd advise a whole heap more of this sort of 'granny suck the eggs this way' kind but, life's too short to read that sort of thing again, and again, and again... so, good luck with your eventual purchase and whatever Lamborghini you buy - welcome to the dark side, also available in other colours!

Many thanks for your kind advice.

I agree with your suggestion, and if I was sensible that would definitely be the way to go, but for me part of the enjoyment in getting a car like this is the whole experience in speccing a new car exactly as I like it and awaiting delivery.

Whichever car I chose, I would like to keep it for at least 3 years, but I find I always want to change when a new model comes out! Unfortunately there is no easy answer, so I will just have to take the gamble soon and decide.

If I chose to go for a Lambo, I will certainly get in contact about the owners club.

Many thanks.

From info on other Lambo sites it looks like the Gallardo won't be replaced until 2010 at the earliest and no doubt all product renewal plans will be under greater scruting now that Porsche has a controlling share of the VW empire.

Giles

if Isuk's right, then I'd recommend getting a Gallardo Superleggera spec.'d to billy-o... and ask for whatever you need to 'deal' with the side stripe being there, in fact - you should ask if that's a de-spec option - really not like me to take against some relatively small matter like that bu it really, really looks wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

I went through the same problem. I have my first Lamborghini arriving in July, I have always loved the cars but have always been a Ferrari man, however I too am a huge fan of the Murci LP640 and especially after seeing the Roadster at Millbrook it did look sensational! As a first time Lamborghini owner I was advised by the good people of Lamborghini London to go for a Gallardo Spyder which I do believe is the right decision as the Murci is coming towards the end, it is a true super car and has all the problems that goes with owning a true super car! However I have been told by Steve Higgins at Lamborghini London they are expecting a replacement for the Murci to be announced at the end of next year! The Gallardo I have been assured will not be replaced until at 2010 but we will be seeing new Special Edition Versions. I to was intent on ordering the Murci, it is a very special car, but my advice is order a Gallardo and if you get on with the car then order the new replacement Murci in year or so time, this is what I intend to do. Just a thought!

very difficult decision and you are dammmed if you do and dammed if you don't. personally and no offence intended why buy the the boy if you can afford to buy the daddy. The LP640 for me would be the way to go.

Thanks again for your input.

I think I am slowly comming round to the idea of getting a gallardo and then getting the Murcielago replacement in a few years time.

I am not the biggest fan of the superleggera, so I think I am more likely to go for the standard car.
