Although I've been to Le Mans a couple of times I've never camped. Booked a pitch this year for one car - subsequently managed to persuade several other mates to go promising them space on my pitch. I presume this is OK and that they will be able to physically walk into the campsite without a pass (other than general entrance ticket) and that it's just the car that needs a pass. Also have assumed these must be space for a 5-6 man tent on a pitch. Can some one please confirm this so I can hastily sort something out if there's a problem.

Cheers - wasn't looking forward to saying sorry, messed up, don't know what you'll do with your ferry / entrance tickets.

Do you mean to share your tent, or to try and fit two tents on one pitch? I would have thought that two 2-man tents take up more room than one 6-man with guide ropes and wotnot. May be wrong though.

You don't say which campsite you are on?

The response from the ACO is that a pass buys you 7m x 5m for your car and your tent etc.

On Houx your space will be marked out and that's what you get. On other sites it may or not be enforced depending on the way the ACO are feeling!

Don't know whether we are sharing tents or putting up two small ones - haven't bought any tents yet! As you stay one big one probably takes up less space. We're on Houx, so will have to stick within our 7 x 5m space - sounds big enough to me anyway. Thanks

You should be OK - 7x5 is actually quite a lot of camping space when you get down to it and, provided you do it sensibly (not all twunts do though) you can park your car in the 'track' between the lines of pitches to free up a little more space.

Has anyone mentioned the trees?

7 x 5 is not an awful lot of camping space, you need to be able get your tents and guyropes onto the pitch or take a chance that your neighbours don't mind you overhanging them and presumably you'll want space to sit and eat etc.

Some of the side alleys are quite narrow - the only time we were on Houx we had a tree, a big tent and there wasn't room in the middle for the car - nightmare!

Which day are you going down on? If it is to arrive at Le Mans on the Thursday or before i would suggest selling the Haux space on e-bay and sourcing a couple of Haux Annex tickets.

We're going down on Fri. Sure we'll sort it out somehow - if we have a tree hammocks spring to mind - they use (used to use) them on submarines don't they because they take up little space!

Tough one then as annex will be a free for all by then with few spaces left. The difficulties with Houx are the trees (if unlucky) and that it is a dust bowl if (when) it is hot. Your pitch is also very much measured out for you. That said for the two nights you will be there it should be okay.
