SAGARIS LOUVERS
Discussion
First time making a posting but been doing a lot of trawling around over the past few months. One thread i came across was the opening up of the Sagaris louvers (or vents/slats whatever) Since TVR went bump (as we know it anyway) many of the chaps who worked there are setting up in buisness for themselves. One such team i've heard of is indeed opening up the louvers, don't have much more info to give you other than their website address so if your interested in such a mod i guess you best take a gander. Go to www.pdqdevelopments.co.uk for more info

I thought that TVR originally had open louvres on the Sag, but they had to fill them in as they kept spitting stones up at the windscreen? (Or was I having my leg pulled?)
No i heard that too!.. Maybe we've both been pulled
I think fitting some sort of mesh on the inside of the loovres once theyve been opened up would resolve that problem
Coincidentally, Top Gear rerun on Sky channel 111 has Jez driving one and he claimed TVR filled in the louvres for the production models owing to the wheels throwing up stuff onto the screen. I'm sure I heard that was bull, and it came down to it being cheaper to manf with them filled in.
Who knows?
I like Tangoed's as it is to be honest... but I'd like it equally with opened up louvres. Is there a performance advantage? If not, possibly 1700 quid better spent elsewhere?

The sagaris Tuscan Challenge racers have their slats opened up, this lets the air flow through from the engine bay. Not sure if it helps with gaining any aero speed, but as cooling goes it must help.
DJC has designed some inserts that are cut and fitted into the slat area. Correct me if I'm wrong but going by photos they are not open at both ends. They are merely for show, They offer no aero advantage only a glimpse of what the original car was, and the rest of production could of been IMHO.
Will I have it done, I don't think so but never say never.

When I was up in Blackpool 18 months ago (just after they decided to fill the louvers in) there were a few "open" cars laying round the yard
Those are the shells Smellyski put to one side for his Sagaris race team (that never happened!). By all accounts they were shells that were already made when Smelly took over and halted production of the Sag.
They stayed there untouched until the clearout a few weeks back.

Hi alfa165. The car in your post looks to have the "stuck-on" vents ie they are not real. This is why no paintwork is affected, the cost seems bloody high for black tape, however well put on!!
I think you need to look a bit harder... The slats are opened up with a black surround mounted in/around them, they most certainly aren't 'Stuck on'. The manhours and skill required to do this without the need to paint, beggers belief IMO.

Ooops! Apologies. The photos did remind me of a company that was providing a stick-on alternative,I think it was even on the same coloured car. What happened to them? Did anyone go down that route? Must say that the price now looks very good considering the amount of work involved and if I still had my sag would definately have got this done ( as nature originally intended ). Will now await further ramifications!
PDQ owned and run by DJC! Not sure about that one. As i understand it ONE car belonging to rpa.janwell was sub-contracted from DJC but other than that there is NO connection. The design, tooling and development work for the louvers was started about a year ago so lots of time was invested in getting them right, and each car takes up to a week to kit out with the louvers.

From his time here DJC has always used the 'we' reference in terms of doing work and getting parts etc etc He - as far as I'm aware - has never given any indication of sub-contracting.
I may be wrong, but the impression he gives and portrays across the PH forums is that of owning/part owning a company.
DJC, perhaps you could clarify?
