Corr, what a day!!
Booked in with Autocraft in Salisbury to find out what was wrong (if anything) with the 390SE.
Set off down there in the car, bit of rain on the way, decided I needed a bit of light on the scene, and only 1 came up!
Arghhhhh. Flippin 'eck. They were fine the other day. I must admit to having done some work, and the light became dislodged, and it jammed the pod about 1 inch from fully down.
Trouble is, I didnt know it was trying to raise, and kept driving for about an hour.
By the time I arrived at Autocraft SVE, the front of the car smelled of toast and the motor burned my hand! So I disconnected it in a hurry.
It turns out the screw threads were on their last legs, and under vibration, the light unit had fallen forwards and jammed the pod... Oops.
Got the car on the rollers, and it started overheating, as the engine fan wasnt cutting in. Fan fuse was getting very hot, but didnt pop.
Turned out to be the bonnet distorting the fan cowling when its fully up, and making the fan blades jam. Motor wasnt happy.
This was turning into a bad day, as my car was refusing to play.
But then the lads at Autocraft got going. We got the fan going by lowering the bonnet halfway, and they got it set up a treat.
First run it made 216BHP flywheel. They sorted the fuelling, checked the ignition advance curve, found an air leak i'd missed (90 degree hose from AFM to plenum had become holed), replaced the hose for me, and got more power.
At the end of it, they'd cured the very lean running, made it drive loads better, and got 227 flywheel out of it with 255lbft torque to boot!
I've now fixed the headlamp motor, and I think it'll fight another day (night?).

I'm glad you can report good service from Autocraft Ed. Has anyone else used them? If so post up your good experiences or (to comply with Ted's rules) give me a "YHM" reply. They are very local to me and I would like to know if I should be using them (or not). Also I presume you live reasonably local Ed? Though your profile doesn't enlighten me any. Where abouts are you based? I'm 2 miles north of Salisbury.
