I need to change the ball joints on my beloved wedge. I might as well do both (top & bottom) so - anything special to note when changing them, and sly tips?
Info much appreciated as ever.
If you can avoid using a tuning fork style splitter then do. It always alarms me having to belt them with a sledgehammer repeatedly until they submit!
If they are original youll have to drill the rivets out of the top ones, buy a decent splitter with a pivoted arm and thin yoke. Sykes-Pickavant do one for about £15. Other than that the new ball joints tend to come with Nylock nuts instead of castles, which can be a bit of a pain until you get a good bite on the taper.

If you use a thick washer under the nut you can use this to pull the taper into place then remove the washer and retighten the nut.
Matt
Or you can put a jack under the joint to lock the taper
