The infernal technology on my new car is getting the upper hand. Just as I booked the car in to have it`s dodgy sat-nav sorted, the whole i-drive (and screen) has died giving me no stereo, satnav, blower or anything just in time for a family trip to france this weekend. It is also making a bloody irritating sound like a stuck CD whilst the screen periodically flickers with a faint BMW!

Any suggestions for a re-boot-fix or is it doomed until the dealer is plugged-in? If the latter then I have a very tedious trip to look forward to!

Thanks

Had this happen on my M6 and it was the CCC...basically the computer. Even though having read up on the problem on BM5W and telling them that they needed to order a part, BMW still wanted them to check every part first before ordering the new CCC. Took five days...so demand a decent loaner. On the plus side I got the V25 update that I asked for and a freebie 01-07 NAV DVD.

The only thing you can do is to try a battery reset.....

Disconnect the earth terminal and possitive terminal of the battery and put the 2 leads together,if they wont reach each other use a spanner-This wont harm anything as you have taken the battery out of the curcuit.
What it will do is remove any voltage spikes in the control units.
Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

By the sounds of it one of the control units in the MOST (media orientated system transtport)bus system is having a fit-probably CCC-the cooling fans tend to fail.Or your battery is low,but you should have a symbol appear in the istrument cluster to tell you that.
The only slightly odd one there is the blowers-they arent lnked in anyway to the CCC.
The noise is probaly the DVD drive resetting itself over and over.

What are you driving?

A 535D with the media pack (apologies by blower I meant `phone).

Thanks for the answers, I`ll try the battery and, if not, it will be banished to the dealer!

I've also had the dreaded iDrive problem, ironically after a software upgrade to v25.

Interestingly (!), the iDrive dies MUCH less frequently (once every 6 weeks rather than once a week) if there is no CD in the dash-mounted CD player. Is this a red herring or does it point to a CCC replacement being needed?

cheers,
