I have a 99 Disco II Es with the factory fitted Harman Kardon 11 speaker system with a CD auto-changer. The head unit has a cassette player inbuilt.

All of which is a bit old hat these MP3 days.

Currently I have a handy gadget that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket that will play mp3s' via a radio link with the stereo. Actually for £15 it is quite good.

However I would like to bring the head unit up to date but I don't want to replace the 11 speaker output.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?.

Oh yes I'm also tighter than a ducks @res so nothing that requires spending heaps of cash.

I've done this upgrade and apart from a lot of waffle and contridictory info on the web, it's pretty straight forward.

I used a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB 54, which has all the connections / features you'd ever need. The H/K system takes hi level inputs, so the Blaupunkt with its ISO speaker connectors and is a straight swap.

However, it was a bit over-amplified, with some feedback. So I added a speaker to RCA connector and a ground loop isolator and all is well. So the RCA outputs from the head unit (optional) go though the isolator to the adaptor to the original speaker wires.

Hi Dan,

I find the rear headphone sockets pretty handy for the kids, with them being able to listen to CDs while I keep track of which traffic jam im heading for.

Will this head unit take care of that or would I lose this feature?

Thanks

Unfortunately you'll loose the extra features like the rear headphone sockets and the CD changer if you change the head unit, but the DAB radio, MP3 and being able to integrate a carphone kit were more important for me.
