so what do you guys and girls think of this?

all great engines but are they really the best? what would you put as your "best engineof the year"?
thanks Chris.

good point!
do you think they will ever get the weight down to more reasonable levels?
come on you guys must have some feelings on the new engines??? what about the use of magnesium ally for block materials?? sequential turboing?? compund supercharging and turboing?? VNT/VGT/VVT turbos?? the comonspread use of direct injection (which i here on the BMW runs at a 15-1AFR even under full boost!!)??
thanks Chris.

I think it's about time that manufacturers started making drivers cars again not just playstations on wheels, gizmo's are fine if they help you drive better, but from the recent statistics on road safety there seems to be no benefit at all.
Take the gizmo's out, make the car lighter as a result (and as a bonus more economical)and then get people driving properly again, oh and stop making cars that are too fast for the roads. I like fast cars but even people carriers are getting power levels beyond the capabilities of many peoples driving skills.

Rollox.
do you have another figure then?????
Well I would bet everything I own that it would be richer than 15:1, that is far too lean on full boost, the EGT's would be through the roof! Thats leaner than stoich(14.7:1) which is what cars aim for on low load cruising.
Considering the generally accepted "best power" AFR for a turbo engine is 12.5:1 and most turbo engines run richer than that to cool things down, I'd bet it richer than 15:1 by a long shot!

I agree it's far too lean it'd have to be richer than stoichiometric on full boost or it'd be holing pistons

marffgtxx, i thought that too! but i was told by an owner that this was the case. im not sure of the condisions so i will go back and have a look.
Chris.
Chris.
I would take whatever the owner has to say with a large pinch of salt, unless that is he has a wideband O2 sensor hooked up to show you the A/F on full boost.
15:1 on boost is defnately engine killing territory!
