Was just wondering how the 6 points that i have will affect my insurance premium next month. I got caught in February doing 55 in a 40, 3 points, and again last weekend for 89 in a 70, again 3 points. I'm slightly concerned about how it will affect my premium, read on here that for some people it doesn't affect it at all, whereas others their premium can double.

24, 3 years no claims, afore mentioned 6 points. Its just so i can get an idea of what to expect before i start hunting around for quotes, currently paying £680 FC on an Audi A6. Any suggestions of where i should be looking to try first?

Cheers thumbup

When I had 6 points my insurance company said that it wouldn't make any difference and it didn't. It's unlike an insurance company not to use any old excuse to hike premiums but they seem to have realised that speeding is not equal to accident liklihood. I guess it depends on the company you're with though.

Shame the government can't do the same...

Though I picked up an SP30 and 6 points and my insurance went up a LOT.

But then my insurance company are shiseters, and won't be my insurance company for much longer...

LOL!

Direct Line didn't care either with my 6 points and short-term ban.

My broker routinely ignores SP decorations, as "everyone has them now"

Most insurance companies seem to be sensible about them and don't tend to get their knickers in a twist unless you have more than 6 points.

IMO if you manage to rack up 3 SP30's in 3 years it says a lot about your powers of observation...*

i'm the same age as you, and have the same 3 years NCB. i also had (at last renewal) 6 points. One SP30 and one TS10. The SP30 did not affect my premium at all, but the TS10 put a bit of weight on it! Norwich Union at the time said that if it was another SP30 then it would have little affect. If you slightly worried, hop on to elephant.co.uk and do a quote. I like their site because you can change your details around and regenerate the quote in seconds, rather than having to re-do the form everytime. So you can add/ remove points and it'll show you the movements.

Not really, 3 years is quite a few miles to most. Unless you keep within the limits all the time, there's always a good chance of a well hidden scam/dodgeyscope catching you out. It happened to a friend of mine quite recently and also a whole car park full of other crims who hadn't spotted the cop behind the sign under the foot bridge. Perhaps you live in a less devious area.

I am currently in a similar situation. I was given a FPN back in february and still have not recieved my license back yet. When/If i actually get it back i will have to tell the insurance company about it, TS20? (red light on ped crossing). I am a named driver on my mum's policy. She has no points. I am 17 and wondering if this will make a difference on the cost of the insurance in both the short term and at renewal. The total cost of the policy at the moment is £1200pa.
