Guys, i'm venturing onto track for my first ever track day at Bedford on Friday. I've never been on track before and am only doing it so i can safely learn the dynamics of my 996 GT2 under the guidance of a professional instructor. I don't think i will be a track regular.

I understand that it is important to get the tyre pressures correct to maximise stability and also prevent unnecessary tyre wear. I'm running on Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with a standard factory geo set up. What pressures should i start out from cold with and how should i adjust them as the tyre temperature goes up?

Regards

At the ring last week I started off at 2.4 bar rears and 2.2 front and the car felt fine
on the GT3 RS the temp on Michelin Sport Cup Tyres hot is 2.1 bar all round
the GT2 is not that much heavier
but around Bedford it does not matter too much as there is so much run off

just be carefull when the boost hits mid corner !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I used to use 32/36 hot on a standard geo - good luck..

Just keep an eye on the rear pressures don't let them get too high.

Thanks for that PnB/Timmo....what psi would you recommend in the wet as the forcast isn't great.

probably same as long as you measure them hot or as hot as you can get them

one thing to note - your instructor can get the tyres hotter than you can, so ask him to drive the car first, and then set the tyre pressures

could be interesting!
I have never done a coned circuit, but am assuming lots of run off at Bedford.
The standard car won't inspire much confidence, you really really need to set a GT2 up.

As a note for all you 996 GT2 owners with standard setup..

The next time I'm at Silverstone, will be happy to take a few passengers out and show them what a properly set GT2 can do.
