Having only had my P&J for just over a week and today being the first cold and wet day I've driven it I noticed that the gearbox was really difficult to engage. Principally 1st and 2nd.

Popped out at lunch to fuel her up and noticed after filling up that the gearbox was fine. I assume this was due to being warm by then. Are all Chimera gearboxes this bad in such cold conditions, as I've bought it as an every day car and don't want my left bicep to be bigger than me right!!

Also I've noticed the clutch bits really low on the pedal, I can never remember if high bite or low bite is the sign of a outgoing clutch! banghead

Before you panic why dont you try changing and bleeding the clutch fluid, you would be suprised how often this is overlooked.

I forgot to mention that I'm not very mechanically minded. Is that easy to do?

It's not easy to do if you're not mechanically minded! If you didn't buy it from a dealer you can go back to, I'd suggest taking it to wherever you planned to have your maintenance done. They'll bleed the clutch hydraulic system easily and it should improve BOTH problems. I think they are one and the same - the clutch is not disengaging fully.
Nick.

I'd imagine selecting reverse is tricky too? If you select 4th before reverse you'll avoid the clunk.

IMHO High bite outgoing, low bite low fluid level, check and top up.

Also worth changing the gearbox oil for what it costs. Looking at your car you will have the later T5 box which are a little stiffer than the old 'Over' box.

When I get my rear window replaced you are more then welcome to try my car out and compare the two. driving

The only difference is mine is a 4.5ltr but the clutch and gearbox should be the same.

Still waiting for someone to call me back and confirm they can put the window in.

Austec Racing put me in touch with a company called Oxted Group but they haven’t returned my emails/calls.

well I had an AA van attend my poor P&J (as whiplash may have noticed!) as when I got in her this morning and tried to engage a gear the revs would drop and she'd start moving forward..... Oh dear!

He diagnosed a faulty master clutch cylinder and has topped her up to keep it going till it goes in for a service next week.

All back to normal now, well for the moment.....

That sounds like the clutch is dragging slightly as if you were at the bite point! prob due to low hydrolic pressure! is there any signs of fluid leaking anywhere? if not then sounds like worn seals in the clutch master cylinder? not too expensive i believe?

It's going back to Racing Green in Ashvale for the service as that's where I bought it from and the service was included in the price. As well as the long list of other things to be sorted on the car. Assuming they do a good job (which they use to do on my Jag to be fair!) I'll continue using them.

Although the AA man this morning mentioned AusTec, but I have heard some good and bad things about them. Though I suppose it's the same for any place really!

Where do you get yours done?

When's your rear screen being done, looks sorry for itself sat under the blue cover. I'm sure it wants to come out and play! driving

Mine used to get serviced at TVR Gatwick but they are no more and it’s due for one in July. So let me know how Racing Green do please.

AusTec are the guys I originally went to get the rear screen done but they put me onto a company called Oxted Group and they are only open weekdays and as I’m off next Friday I hope to get it done then.

Can’t wait to get back in the saddle and I hate not being able to see her. ONE MORE WEEK….cloud9

Although not needing one, I came across a firm called Polyfacto in Hailsham (near Eastbourne) who told me £160 for a new rear screen. 01323 841399
