I spent a puzzling afternoon with two RAC guys trying to work out why my fuel pump stopped working after fitting a new battery to my '96 Chim.
The 'bible' hints that there is a fuel isolator switch buried somewhere under the nearside footwell. Any ideas how to locate it and what it looks like? and what do all those relays do that sit on top of the battery do any control fuel?
Grateful for any suggestions...

The fuel cutout (inertia) switch is under the dash, behind the glove "pouch" on the passenger side, but shouldn't cause much in the way of problems unless you've dropped the car off a jack or some such. The two metal cased relays do have a bearing on the fuelling, one being the fuel pump relay, so obviously has a direct effect.

When the igintion is turned on do you hear one of those relays click onthen click off after a couple of seconds? If not then i'd suggest its a duff relay or the connections have been disturbed. If it does then i'd suggest its possibly a problem at the fuel pump end, either connectors or bad earth.

Iain

There is also a fuse (in fact 2) with the EcU 'gubbins' loom. Your alarm/immob may be out of synch - try locking the car & starting? or resetting it. Battery disconnects are your friend ~ instead of playing arc welders when putting the battery back (does seem immobs are more sensitive to that than anything else?).

yes

Try re-seating the relays (they are the ones on 'fly leads'), and if that doesn't work swap them over and see if the pump starts.
