Well I think I may have exceeded my carbon output for the year a few minutes ago .. apologies to the drivers behind but the C4S just let out a **gigantic** plume of smoke across a dual carriageway - i'd say about the volume of two double-decker buses! Really thought something major had gone wrong, but amazingly there was absolutely no affect to the car whatsoever ..

Just come off the M3 (J3) and turned southbound towards Guildford, round a corner, fairly quick, moved into the right-hand lane, sorry Porsche lane, of the dual carriageway, just as it straightened out changed up into 4th I expect and my rear view mirror was full of smoke! Gawd knows what the following cars must've thought - I saw a couple gingerly come through the fog and continue, but it can't have been nice.

Any idea what might have caused this? Car parked safely in garage now ..

My only thoughts were that I may have overfilled the oil at the weekend, but i've been out a couple of times since then and no smoke confused

It's happened twice to my 996, both times on the same section of road, (90 miles from home)where I had peeled off from a quick blast on a dual carraigeway, exited down the slip road, taken a fairly quick bend, gone to floor it on the next section and huge smoke bomb! yikes

Good news is that both times had the car checked and nothing found to be amiss, OPC couldn't explain the reason, so hopefully you should be okay.

It wasn't a burn out .. I was doing a fair lick of knots and it -is- only a lardy C4S ....

Just checked the oil .. yeah, you could say it was fairly full; I mean i've had cars this full before but none have physically ejected the oil in the same manner! It's a couple of mm over the max.

Too much

In MY experience,

something around just above low,
but well below brimming' on the stick seems to offer best results
